His parents were advised by the college he attended, that their kid should go for a mental health evaluation. This 22 year old was 'questionable' for a long time. Even his college teachers were concerned that he may have a gun.
It will be interesting to find out, if we ever do, what his parents did with that information.

The fact is, over the past 2 years Congress approval rating has been hovering around 10%. Congress has passed the unpopular TARP Bill, the "Stimulus" Bill, then the $1 Trillion dollar Obamacare bill, regardless of the lack of public support. Polls have shown time and time again, these acts of legislation to be unpopular with the majority of Americans. Yet, the political class has thumbed their noses at the people. The Obamacare bill care was passed in a purely partisan way, without public support. Then Nancy Pelosi goes and mocks the angry people at the Town Hall meetings opposing the Health Care Bill, calling them "Astroturf".
I would blame the Congress' style of governance over the past 2 years as more of the reason this tragedy happened. While Obama was twisting the arms of Congressmen and women in the districts where the majority of their constituents opposed the Obamacare legislation, he was risking the lives of those Congressmen and women. Forcing them to sign onto legislation that most in their district opposed.
The political class and the media are using Palin and the Tea Party as a scapegoat for their poor governance and tone deafness toward the people. Their actions as legislators during the last two years agitated the crazies - not the Tea Party or Palin rhetoric.
If Loughner's family was alerted by the school when he was 21 too late. Parents are out. You cannot force someone into therapy. People have a right to their own self-determination.
This kid is a mentally ill. Its a terrible tragedy. But it still remains that because of his mental illness he may have felt the need to rally against the Congresswoman for some right wing cause. Like it or not, it is a possibility. Look At McVeigh. Well we can't look at McVeigh because somebody thought the death penalty was a good for this case.

Oh Lordy, before I forget-my Arizona sources inform me that Loughner's mother is an employee of the Pima County board of Supervisors! Holy Smokes, a democrap run board as far back as I remember...I hope she isn't a patronage worker ala' DV of the 'working together works team!!!!' THAT would make the left wing spin much more difficult to pass him off as being from a family of rabid right wingers. So far they haven't been dredging up the family so it makes sense that they are dems in a dem organization. If his mom was a GOP precinct captain or committeeperson or something we would have been hearing it every 10 seconds.
