But YNN had someone from a downtown restaurant talking that some strange men were there.
I just hope if the pres is going to eat there, that he eats at one of the private businesses, and not at the taxpayer funded restaurants. Long existing places that were popular in GE's hey day should be the places to eat, businesses that weren't getting welfare from the taxpayers, restaurants that aren't in business because taxpayers have lost their homes to tax foreclosures. I think we should go with the picket sign like signs saying " Taxpayers losing their homes to fund this restaurant" And all kinds of signs that show taxpayers are ignored, spat on, treated like sh*t and how financially struggling people have to pay the property and school taxes of the rich
But then again, well, this is socialism in Schenectady
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is restructuring his economic advisory board and naming General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt as its new head.
The new board, called the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, will replace the former Economic Recovery Advisory Board that had been chaired by former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker.
Volcker has said he was ending his tenure on the panel.
The advisory board includes past government officials and representatives from labor and the corporate world. Volcker has been a regular White House adviser, though the board itself has met infrequently with the president.
Immelt will join Obama in Schenectady, N.Y., Friday for an economy related visit to a General Electric plant. Immelt is announcing the reconstituted board Friday in an opinion piece in The Washington Post.
20 minute rah-rah speech for General Electric and Mr. Immelt. A new Council of Economic Advisors with a turbine as a backdrop. Could have been in a sound studio. And he's off! No time for a cup of coffee?
No stop at the dusty Museum, basketball, or to see empty Proctor's? The infantile coverage by the Gazetto was disgusting. Real small town. This will do nothing to help local businesses, oppressed taxpayers, nor SCCC. Hopefully he gave a lob position to "outstanding" Mayor SOS who "really seemed to enjoy himself on Air Force One".
The most promising part of the Obama GE visit was General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt's praising Schenectady GE. Obama can say what he wants, but it will have little effect on the future of Schenectady GE... Immelt's words mean much more.
The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness. John Kenneth Galbraith
CEO Jeff Immelt's words were wonderful to hear. Unlike Mr. Welch, he seems to appreciate the work being done at the Main Plant and the Niskayuna R&D center, which are both world class. History is being made every day. Hopefully, the fawning media will focus on that and not where the President Obama should have visited. The overhype from the Gazetto can only be termed infantile.
"We're going back to Thomas Edison's principles. We're going to build stuff and invent stuff," President Obama in Schenectady 1/21/11. A Harvard Law Grad?
All of this talk about 'green technology' is just laying the ground work in support of CAP AND TRADE!!
So while schenectadians are drolling over the fact that obama is here, they better hang on to their wallets if this CAP AND TRADE advances and becomes a reality.

Spotted in the crowd on Erie Blvd waiting in the cold for a glimpse of the Presidential motorcade; A mother with a 3 month old child. A 57 year old unemployed woman who voted for Obama.
It was a great day for Schenectady ... and a great day for Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, Congressmen Tonko, Hannah, and Gibson ... and, of course, for Mayor Stratton. Mayor Stratton not only got to ride on Air Force One from DC ---he rode on Marine One from the White House to Andrews Air Force Base.
Don't worry that the president did not stop and eat in Schenectady today, he has been invited to come eat at the next Polish Harvest Festival at the Polish Community Center in October. That way he will get to eat some awesomely good food.

You hold your breath for it, and I'll watch you turn blue.
BTW, Obama spent most if not all of his time in bldg 273, because the "battery plant" is non-existant

All this "Green" economy stuff comes with its own sets of toxic waste. Battery production is about as toxic as it gets other than Nukes. The Florescent light bulbs the gubmet is pushing us to use have Mercury in them. You are NOT supposed to dispose of them in the ordinary trash and the EPA has a multi-page instruction sheet to follow if you happen to shatter one in your home.
