And residents in Rotterdam pay triple what the city people pay for trash pick up ... and we pay it to a private company .... and BTW .. we can't put a mountain of garbage out every week, either ... just 1 receptacle for garbage and 1 receptacle for recyclables.
Woodlawn is OK --- but if you start judging plowing times but what people think is a nice neighborhood ... than I think they should plow Waverly Place and the streets just east of Schenectady High first ... then plow the nice area of Mont Pleasant between Michigan and Altamont ... and oh .. yeah then .. the GE Plot ... working that way we might get to Woodlawn by 10 PM the next night.
NO, DV, people in the down do NOT pay triple for trash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You clearly don't know your math. In the town most private is roughly, ROUGHLY $25 per month which amounts to $300 per year. In the city, people pay BOTH through a trash "fee" AND they pay through the property "taxes." The trash department budget is NOT dependent exclusively on the trash "fees" The owner of a one family house will pay $165 in the "fee" PLUS a portion from their "regular" property tax. The owner of a two family house will pay $330 per year in fee PLUS the amount from the tax. The owner of a three family house will pay $495 per year in the fee PLUS a portion from the property tax. I'd like to see a pie chart broken down showing what percent of the taxes goes toward each department. Let's say that 10% of of a city tax bill goes to the trash dept budget, well, if the person is paying $1,500 in property "tax" (and this is EXCLUSIVE of trash "fee," water "fee," and sewer "fee"), then that person is paying $150 for trash collection through the tax PLUS $165 through the trash "fee." tht would be over $300 per year. I'm not saying that IS the percentage, but it would be nice to know. Also, DV, in the town, we have pick up comletely EACH AND EVERY week of the year ALWAYS on the same day (well, we have County Waste as our collection company, it may vary). The ONLY one or two times that they do not collect on the designated day is Thanksgiving Day but they pick up those customers just a mere two days later on Saturday. If Christmas falls on your regular trash day, they won't pick up on that day, but WILL pick up on the Saturday after. The city will NEVER work on a Saturday, actually, in 40 years I'm aware of MAYBE once they didn't pick up, like maybe the blizzard of 93 or similar. The people in Schenectady have only 49 or 50 weeks of pick up per year, it depends when the holidays fall but if for a couple months your pick up day is Friday, then the following week has a holiday, you will NOT have pick up that week at all, it will move to Monday until the next holiday, etc. And once October hits, all the holidays, PLUS the city rapes the taxpayers by taking TWO days off for thanksgiving!
So, don't speak about something when your facts are wrong

We pay a heck of a lot more than $25 a month for trash removal. I know because I write the check for it.

Gee, all of us who have County Waste dont' pay "a heck of a lot more than $25" Maybe you DON'T really know because you DON'T write the check out for it.
CW varies by the size of the can, and I do remember a little increase, first time in years and for the biggest can + the recycle can I think it's $27.50, give or take a few pennies, with tax included.

Even if it was $28 or whatever, why does he think the city does it cheaper? What a moronic statement! If the 170 garbage fee covers it, then I would be shocked. I bet that it only covers a third of the cost of having that program where the city takes away the garbage. Furthermore, it is assessed on EMPTY houses (we know that a third of the housing stock is unoccupied) and empty lots as well, which need NO garbage removal. The nice thing about private service is that

Since you don't what service we use, you really don't know what you are talking about.

It is still cheaper than having THE GOVERNMENT DO IT!!!!!!!

Nope - I know exactly what I pay per month and it works out to 2.54 times MORE than what city residents pay.
Yet again - the Nattering Nayboobs of Negativity are WRONG.

Only a foolish person would pay that much for trash removal when it could be removed 1.5 times cheaper. Why would you waste money like that unless you're just trying to exaggerate your story.
City property owners are double taxed for trash collection. A separate garbage fee was instituted by horrible Mayor SOS on top of the regular tax. If you are paying 2.5X that you must be putting out 5 cans a week. The best thing any new Mayor could do is privatize trash eliminating a huge expense, ending double taxation while generating revenues in a bidding war from private haulers.

Oh, so DV, you are saying you pay probably in excess of $1,200 per year for trash pick up?
Remember, DV, don't just look at the fee, you MUST INCLUDE the portion of the property taxes that goes into the trash department budget.

And the empty buildings and lots PAYING THE FEE EVEN THOUGH NO ONE IS THERE TO GENERATE THE TRASH!!!!!!!!!!
If this fool ever did one positive thing in the private sector, creating jobs, paying a payroll, learning to understand general accounting principles, etc, HE WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS IN NO WAY CHEAPER FOR THE PROPERTY OWNERS AND/OR THE TAXPAYERS TO HAVE IT DONE BY MUNICIPAL UNION EMPLOYEES AND BUREAUCRACY!
Fool is the best description, next to As$ Clown or loser. The depths of his ignorance gets no more sickening than illustrated in this thread.

And it would not be difficult to find out what company services the house where you stay and wouldn't be difficult to find out what the rates are.
