As I predicted in my column in the “Woodlawn Connection” [newsletter], already we have problems with code enforcement and snowplowing in Woodlawn. In addition, the fancy paint job on the merging traffic lanes was useless after the recent weekend storm, since the plows got out too late and the paint jobs were completely covered. So, we were back to two lanes of traffi c both ways. I did see one of our nice business people snowblowing his sidewalk right into the street, [like] many of the homeowners. It didn’t matter too much on the side streets, because the “contract” plow drivers hadn’t shown up as of 10:30 a.m. Monday. I did see some good neighbors using their machines on their neighbors’ sidewalks. One did a whole block, and I was amazed how efficiently he worked. I did not see a city plow — nor did I see one of those gray supervisor’s trucks fi nding out for the City Council just how bad Woodlawn is treated. For all the talk by the council, they do not “walk the walk.” May I suggest, instead of councilmen at large, we go back to having ward supervisors, so we have someone’s feet to hold to the fire.
I wonder who the person was snow-blowing the snow into the street.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
Once again, lack of service in the city....lack of plowing, lack of enforcement against peole snow-blowing into the road -- all becuase there is no money for such city services, well, there is money but it is being diverted to the millionaires downtown via 100% tax exemption on EVERY PLEX project done by Savage.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Quit bitching --- get a shovel and start moving some of the snow yourself.

Maybe some of us do. Maybe some of us plow out or snowblow out our portion of the street and our neighbors because it takes days to get service we pay dearly for.

Out here in the countryside - we help plow our neighbors' driveways and pay our taxes .. and don't complain.

PS- Mr. King is 80 years old and has a heart condition.

The county does a pretty good job plowing the highway -- but we snow-blow our driveway and a a few neighbors and try to keep the shoulder of the roads wide for those who jog or bike .... oh .. and keep the fire hydrant clear in case of a fire emergency or if needed by a neighborhood doggie.

Schenectady taxpayers pay triple the amount on their homes in taxes than do surrounding areas. Therefore, one would conclude that with the enormous amount paid to the City, they would plow the tazpayers neighborhoods properly. Woodlawn, being one of the nicer neighborhoods the City has, should have been cleared far earlier than 10 am. If the City can't do that, well, then start cutting taxes because if you can't deliver - we shouldn't be paying.
Bravo to Mr. King-especially his recommendation of a ward system for City representation. The current system of at large seats has resulted in an over representation of DEM locksteppers from the GE Realty Plot and Stockade. Mt Pleasant, Northside, Upper Union and Vale are unrepresented. Anything that can be done to impose a term limit, go to a ward system and shake up this failed group would be beneficial to democracy.

And residents in Rotterdam pay triple what the city people pay for trash pick up ... and we pay it to a private company .... and BTW .. we can't put a mountain of garbage out every week, either ... just 1 receptacle for garbage and 1 receptacle for recyclables.
Woodlawn is OK --- but if you start judging plowing times but what people think is a nice neighborhood ... than I think they should plow Waverly Place and the streets just east of Schenectady High first ... then plow the nice area of Mont Pleasant between Michigan and Altamont ... and oh .. yeah then .. the GE Plot ... working that way we might get to Woodlawn by 10 PM the next night.

Helping blow out driveways is one thing, DV, but people pay taxes for the STREETS to be plowed. Since homeowners pay taxes for the city to provide the plowing, can you explain why you think homeonwers should clean the streets??????????

WE are all part of the community -- whatever we can do to help the community get through a bad storm - literally or figuratively -- is a good thing. If it means helping to shovel or plow the streets -- why not? We are all in this together.
Unfortunately some self-centered folks have the selfish attitude that the government has to do everything for them while they sit on their asses and type nasty posts about the government.
