As senders says, "Follow the money". Investigate payola to those who have the power to direct/award public funds. Be vigilent of those with seeming conflicts of interest.
How hard is it to find the correlation that the highest taxed City in the Northeast has the most crime? The City is a hotbed of corruption and misuse of taxpayer money. If it wasn't, the millions of dollars in taxes would be protecting the residents. WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING?!?
IMHO, the corruption and crimes begin right in City Hall, it then seeps its way down where the common criminal and drug dealers are - on the streets and in the City neighborhoods.
The City should be ashamed that they have stolen so much taxpayer money for NOTHING. They have no right to let the people who fund their paychecks live in such a violent and unsafe environment. They should be subjected to walking through the Hill and MP everyday and night to see what they have created. Maybe then, a change can come.
Schenectady’s No. 1 status is partly a statistical anomaly. Population-wise, Schenectady County is one of the smaller counties in the state. Its relatively few number of prison admissions is thus a larger percentage of its population, pushing it above counties like the Bronx, which sends nearly 10 times as many residents to prison each year.
This statement from the article says all that I care to say -- the report is obviously skewed because of the admitted "anomaly".
I'd much rather live in Schenectady County than in the Bronx or ANY county of New York City or for that matter any county from Albany on south along the Hudson ... the only exception is Columbia County ... all of the rest have certain pockets with high crime areas ... examples -- Newburgh Kingston Poughkeepsie.
I don't care what the Nattering Nayboobs of Negativity say about me .. their lies and insults ... I love Schenectady County ... I will always try to promote and build it UP .... I will not stoop to their tactics and bash others nor will I bash the county that I love. If they don't like it, God gave each of them an orifice that they can put their complaints in.

The anomoly is that if you live in Schenectady County, you are more likely to run into someone who committed a crime than someone who lives in New York City. The city IS the anomoly, not the facts about what happens here.

Kevin -- you are just wrong -- the article admits that the there is a statistical problem in the analysis.
Have you studied statistics ??? Well, I have --- and one of the first things you learn in Statistics is that it possible to end up with incorrect results due to anomalies.
Because there is an anomaly in the way the study data was put together --- their conclusion is WRONG.
Schenectady County is NOT more dangerous than the Bronx. That is not to say that there is NO crime in Schenectady County ---- but I challenge you to walk through the Bronx at night or any time of the day .. and come back (if you survive) and tell me that the Bronx is safer than Schenectady.

There is no way to sugar coat it. We are paying the highest taxes, per capita, for the worst services. Rachel has it right-the corruption starts in City Hall and filters throughout. The rot is all round-even up on to Baker Ave.
A Mayor most concerned with hiking his own salary and illegal pension padding. 2 City Attorneys at full salary doing the work of one. A clueless City Council that can't read a budget and is in the dark about hiring incompetents and racist contractors. And so it goes with the residents afraid to read the latest Times Union.
Because there is an anomaly in the way the study data was put together --- their conclusion is WRONG.
What proves this was not an anomaly is the rash of crime that has been occurring throughout the city - including the beloved downtown district... just a few blocks from police headquarters.
Ok....let's not split hairs here!!!! Hypothetically we'll say that schenectady isn't as dangerous as the Bronx.....But it is clear and the bottom line is that Schenectady is more dangerous now than it ever was!!! Any dimwit can figure that one out! Crime continues to grow. Shooters are on the loose. Prostitutes, drug addicts/dealers and pan handlers are the norm on the miracle mile and beyond. It has now taken over Mt. Pleasant aka Hamilton Hill II, and is starting to spill over into rotterdam. And of course let's not forget the award winning, corrupt schenectady school system!!!
The good hard working over taxed residents are moving out and the bad element is moving in and taking over because they can. There is no one to stop them. The liberal socialists refer to the bad element as 'victims'. Until that ridiculous mentality is gone, things will only get worse!

It's not a statistical anomaly. It's a percentage. If there was a population of 600 in Lake Placid and 60 violent crimes, and 599 violent crimes in Schenetady at a population of 60,000 - guess what? Lake Placid is more dangerous.
Kathleen doing her part as a wing of the Democrat PR machine to soften the political blow. What the fu(k is a partial anomaly? If this was a Republican Administration, these statistics would have been splashed all over the paper like we were living in South Central LA.

Oh and the fact homicides are up year over year.
the article even admits that it is an anomaly
anyway -- if you folks think that the Bronx is so great --- go move there

"partly" the article says. What is a part anomaly Mr. Statistition?
like in -- you partly spelled statistician correctly ?????
if you partly spell a word correctly -- it is still spelled incorrectly
similarly -- if you have an anomaly -- the results/conclusions of a study are still wrong
furthermore - the use of part or partly -- is like saying "that person is partly dead" of "that woman is partly pregnant" ------ dead is dead ... pregnant is pregnant ... no partly about it

The reason why Schenectady is getting worse is because when these reports and stats come out, the Mayor, the Council and people like DV downplay the reality. Truth be told, living in Schenectady is dangerous. It is no place to raise a family and safety in many neighborhoods is nonexistent. We have even seen shots fired downtown recently.
What I wish for in 2011 is that the Mayor and the Council would finally acknowledge that the homeowners need to be treated with much more dignity and respect. Instead of the City employees, who don't live in Schenectady, getting pay raises, cell phones and City vehicles, let's take that money and put more police on the streets. Let's give the drug dealers a reason NOT to return to our City. Let's arrest the hookers everyday until they move on and out of the City. Let's get slumlords out (let them do their own demolition work) and they can take their tenants with them.
Schenectady has become a haven of crime, drugs and poverty. Downtown revitalization will not change the dire state the City is in. Changes and resources are needed in the neighborhoods before the crime wave consumes all.
Rachel you are dead on. HOWEVER......the city government has allowed the city to deteriorate to a level never seen in the city before, and although I agree on pursuing the bad elements so they move on and out, where will they move on and out to???
The bad element is already overflowing into rotterdam and nisky. Perhaps the bad element will move out of the city, but they will just move in to the surrounding towns. The elected city and county officials have destroyed schenectady county. It will be decades....if at all, before schenectady county turns around. It is a sh!thole!!!!
