"Holy smokes!'' was my immediate reaction when I heard about an unusual burglary in downtown Schenectady a few days before Christmas.
The crooks ripped off about $10,000 worth of cigarettes from the Stockade Market & Deli at State and Church, according to police reports.
Thieves broke through a rear door to the market, which was closed when the overnight incident happened.
At first blush, 10-grand seemed like a bit of an exaggeration of the cigarettes' dollar value. However, when cops did the math, based on 10 bucks a pack, it came to about 100 cartons.
