And I can think of at least two businesses that are looking to relocate to Rotterdam from the City.

They should not be hasty and wait for the man with the big bag to reappear. Tis the season-reason-high taxes! Maybe they can get 150% off property taxes like that Mexican governmental gin mill best known for shotguns.

The FBI statistics show that violent crime in the City of Schenectady has gone down in the past 10
years and that property crimes have gone up in the same time period.

There are many reputable sources:

Uh, DV, you said the FBI STATISTICS!!!!!!!!!!!!    YOur long list says ABSOLUTELY NOTHINHG WHATSOEVER about the crimes in Schenectady.

First of all, YOUR statement is that the FBI says so, but you have continuously REFUSED to provide any link to the FBI who YOU allege provided such statistics.  You have told people to go find it themselves, yet you claim you have seen it.  SO PROVE.

Now, YOUR list refernces sourcs from OVER 10 YEARS AGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   We have state that crime has risen DRAMATICALLY since the Savage-Gillen-Stratton team have chosen to ignore the people, to ignore the neighborhoods, and instead tax the hell out of the city residents and give out all the taxpayer welfare to millionares downtown.

So, again, let's see you provde a link to the source of your ALLEGED FBI statistics.  Provide a linke to the FBI website itself wher eyou have claimed you saw and and thus told others to "go look for it themselves"

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Other cities have succeeded in turning around the "broken window syndrome" and their residents
WORKING TOGETHER with local law enforcement and local government and civic leaders have taken
the steps to TAKE BACK their streets, parks and public spaces.

The initiative to build multi-modal trails in the City of Schenectady and the County of Schenectady is a
great step forward.   I applaud Mayor Stratton, the City Council,  Ray Gillen, and all the fine folks from
county government who helped get the state grants to build these trails.   Once again, we have proven
that WORKING TOGETHER WORKS and that our city and county have great, forward thinking public servants
leading us to a great future.

Well that may seem all very logical....

However when the community recognizes that this city is spiraling downhill, they are a lot less likely to invest money in fixing up their houses.

Housing prices are going to continue to decline as long as we have this massive taxation problem in this city.

I know you truly believe all the things you are saying...  But people really are walking away from their houses...  No amount of positive thinking or positive talk is going to refute that simple truth.

All the positive thinking in the world isn't going to overcome the negatives on the property owners bank statements on tax day.

The same reason businesses like Mallozzi's & Marcella's threaten to move out without HUGE tax breaks/exemptions at the residents expense, is the same reason homeowners walk away from their property.  TAXES ARE TOO HIGH...But like MC says, the well heeled buy the politicians to give tax breaks and exemtions for their businesses, in return for large contributions.  The rest of us in the middle are getting squeezed, forced to pay for the social welfare coming up from NYC, and corporate welfare for local millionaires with connections.

If there are any young people reading this and has a chance to leave Schenectady County or better yet New York State, DO IT.  They will take every penny you earn.

The approach has been followed in a number of cities in the US.   Schenectady is NOT the only city with
problems ... especially not in the "great northeast".

The city would be a lot better off if the "complainers" channeled some of their energy to DOING something
to help rather than just flapping their gums.   As long as these negative people just keep tearing down
the city with their venomous negativity  than they remain just as much a part of the problem as the
criminals and slumlords.

Yes -- I said it --  MC and PatZ and all the other negative whiners who just flap their gums and complain
are AS MUCH a part of the problem as the criminals and slumlords.

Think positive -- lend a hand -- work to make your community better.

Was Mallozzi a "complainer" when he threatened to move his business out of the Schenectady unless he received a handout in the MILLIONS along with tax exemptions on the backs of the taxpayers?

We "complain" because we don't have the means to strong-arm a property tax break like a Mallozzi or a Marcella.  We are at the mercy of our legislators and the taxing authorities.  Creating public discontent with the status quo, and informing the people of the incompetence, corruption, and cronyism in local government is a BIG part of "doing something".

Gum flapping and changing the public debate is the beginings of making the changes needed.  I don't have the power of the "well heeled" to "roll up my sleeves" and reduce my property and school taxes, like those millionaires who threaten to leave.  By your definition, Mallozzi is the king Nattering Nayboo of Negativity.

Anyone that states the truth that property taxes are the highest in the Nation, the DEMS have overspent and wasted millions on pension padding-the "friends/family club" and that checks and balances not working together plutocracy is needed-is "too negative". After 10 years of cheer leading we need reality not more broken windows rhetoric. {which we heard from the City DEMS 7 years ago}. Then the entire house collapsed with the new Pella windows.

No wonder Kabul Nights has closed. This is down Union St from WineDown also closed. On the block of Panerzo's also closed. Not only do they close but no one wants to reopen. There are so many slices from a shrinking pie. Metrograft must concentrate on reindustrialization, adding rail lines and stop the governmental gin mill/restaurant nonsense.

Ray likes to refer to businesses that go out of business as "bottom feeders" that we "don't need" anyway. They like to choose who wins and who loses, and who gets big and who gets destroyed. Makes the little commies feel empowered.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

If developed properly,  a multi-modal trail system with the county could host a Tour de Schenectady bike
race.   Great way to promote our county and its many natural and man-made treasures.

In this fantastical dream-world in which your vapid head wonders, do the bike riders shoot at each while they are moving in this race, or do the rules say they have to stop, and take aim like in the biathlon?
