SCHENECTADY COUNTY
County hoping to expand hiking, biking trail network

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Michael Lamendola at 395-3114 or lamend@dailygazette.com.

Schenectady County is seeking to expand its network of inner-city hiking and biking trails by building a new link through Central Park.
The Central Park link would measure 1,500 feet and connect to proposed and already completed inner city routes along Bradley Boulevard, through Vale Cemetery and along Franklin Street. Together, the inner city routes are called the Downtown Park Loop Trail. It would join the already completed segment of the state’s Mohawk Hudson Bike Trail in the county.
The county is seeking a $164,000 grant from the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to construct the Central Park link. The Schenectady County Industrial Development Authority would provide $41,000 toward the project, to fulfi ll the local match, said Ray Gillen, commissioner of economic development and planning for Schenectady County.
“This fulfills a promise by the county Legislature to connect and enhance the trail in Schenectady County,” Gillen said.
Gillen said the Bradley Boulevard portion of the Downtown Park Loop Trail was completed in the fall and work on the section through Vale Park will begin in the spring. The county is also seeking money from the state Environmental Facilities Corporation to complete the Franklin Street section of the trail.
The state in October reopened a 4-mile-long link in the Mohawk Hudson Bike Trail in Schenectady County that was closed this spring to undergo approximately $1.2 million in work. ......................>>>>....................>>>>..........................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00801&AppName=1

Another Christmas miracle! Working together works! No jobs-no fiscal restraint-another trail to nowhere. Yeah, it's a slow newsday.

Coming next unmonitored security cameras in Central Park!

I can think of a lot better uses for the money than wasting it on a hiking/biking trail.

Lets build new crap we can't afford to take care of while the infrastructure we currently have is falling down around us. Brilliant as always. Just like the PW Garage, the (defeated for now) Mohon capital expansion, the Erie Blvd project and the Cops union/Chief wanting a new police station in Rotterdam. Brilliant way to bankrupt the future. Liberals at work, making us proud of their lack of intelligence and fore planning. Merry Christmas to you and all future bankrupt NY generations, courtesy of the liberals and the cop leadership and public works beneficiaries!

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

"Under the new unified County redevelopment team we have brought in no new jobs, opened no new factories, can't site a new County Home, can't cut spending but we have a fulfilled a promise for a trail that no one uses," stated Landslide Savage. Had enough-YET?

The multi-modal trails being developed in the city and along the river ... should be extended into
the surrounding towns.
Keep up the great work -- get the trails built.

A trail THROUGH Vale cemetery? What? Are we going to pave the area where drug dealers hang out?!? I'm sure they'll appreciate a paved trail to run from the cops. Easier on the Air Jordans.

The stairs from Lansing St to Crane St actually belong to the city.

The entire County is falling apart and these DEM idiots want more trails. There already is a trail system in Central Park that no one uses. It's so pathetic it's funny. It's right up there with the flop County outdoor movie program. Open another governmental gin mill at ALCO and get it over with. The DEMS don't have a clue how to create an environment so that private sector employers can prosper and create high paying jobs.

When President Obama was handing out stimulus pork left and right all these local DEM morons could get was money for a bike trail. It just shows the clout they don't have. Even among their own party. The highest taxes, the highest unemployment, the lowest home values, the worst corrupt politicians BUT a dynamite trail system! Another so Schenectady County.

When the GOP ran the County Leg ....
GE laid off workers left and right -- and was on the verge of moving out of Schenectady altogether,
downtown Schenectady was a ghost town,
and the future looked bleak.

Since the Dems began running the County Leg ...
GE is investing in its Schenectady plant and adding jobs
downtown is becoming a destination place again
and the future looks bright.

End of discussion,

Gee, jobs left the United States.

And the people in the jobs aren't moving into the city.

It's it interesting that people who praise the spending of taxpayer money wont' buy a house in the city, wonder why

Some people think that WASTING money on bike trails is more important than spending money on reducing crime.  What's more important?   Spending omoney to fix the watermains so the overtaxed homeowners don't have to spend THOUSANDS of dollars after torrential rains because the city fails to maintain them and won't cover the damages (nor will the homeowners insurance policies).  Guess some think bike trails are more important than snowplowing, code enforcement, other infrastructure, etc.   It's easy for people to praise the spending of money when they don't have to live in between gunshots.

State money?   Again, bridges can fall down but let's praise the spending of state money on bike trails.  Cut spending on medical stuff for poor elderly, but make sure we have useless bike trails.
