City native's band releases song/video 'Schenectady' (with video)
Friday, December 3, 2010
By Kathleen Moore (Contact)
Gazette Reporter

A Brooklyn band has released a music video about the city that used to light and haul the world.
The song is titled “Schenectady.”
The video by Yarn — whose lead singer is a Schenectady native — highlights a few of Schenectady’s positive points, including its many bars and the historic Stockade neighborhood.

But it also shows a broken store sign, a building shut down by code enforcement, and a “dead end” sign — implying that Schenectady isn’t a place of progress any more.
One of the song’s verses describes corrupt police officers. Vocalist Blake Christiana, who grew up on Ardsley Road, wrote it just after officer Jeffrey Curtis was arrested for stealing crack from the department’s evidence locker and smoking it.
“At the time, there was some funny things in the news about the police,” Christiana said. “I didn’t want to bash Schenectady too hard, though in a way it sounds like I do.”
Instead, he said, he tried to express how he felt as a teenager living here.
“I have fond memories but as I got older, [I thought], ‘I’ve got to get out of here,’ ” he said. “People still have that negative vibe.................>>>>................>>>>..................http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2010/dec/03/1203_yarn/

THIS sums it all up. Sue SaVAGE should have used THIS as her video! Sad, but art imitates life. Get over it DVOR-face facts. Your boys did the job on our city, town and county.

Although one can admire a positive attitude...... being unrealistic and not seeing or denying the obvious is a sure recipe for failure! Schenectady county, which is the highest taxed and crime ridden is realistic. I don't know how anyone can look upon that in a positive light.

The efforts from the last decade have proven to be a failure....for the taxpayers and the economy. It is time for a change in schenectady county. It is time to take the rose colored glasses off and hand the baton over.

Schenectady county needs new faces and new blood that will deal with the 'realistic' issues facing the overburdened taxpayers. Ones that will deal with the realistic tough issues head on.

And you think you are?????   Tell us HOW?   By forcing taxpayers to pay higher taxes to subsidize the rich?   For having taxpayers to be giving money left and right to all kind of businesses that can DAMN WELL AFFORD to foot the bill themselves?  By having taxpayers bail out a restaurant, not once, but twice and IF FAILED ANYWAY!!!

By insuring that the elected and their cronies keep things a secret from the taxpayers?

Making things better, what, by making the financially struggling taxpayers pay the property taxes of the rich?   HOW does that make things better?

Pat Z, for example, criticizs, but she in the roughly ten years she has been vocal, she has done way far more than you will have done by the end of your life.  She has inspired many to seek answers and not let the politicians just take advantage of the people.

DV, this county is NOT going to improve as long as the politicans are robbing the taxpayers, giving money to the rich, and neighborhoods are ignored----WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO ACCEPT THAT AS AN UNDISPUTABLE FACT!!!!!!!!!!

Do YOU want to live where it's dangerous to even  go to your car to go somewhere?  Do YOU want to live where it's too dnagerous for children to play outside?   DO you want to live where merely walking from work to home can get you left for dead....do you remember the Walmart employee who was walking home and got beat up.  Do you want to live amidst vacant houses long abandoned inability to pay the taxes?   Do YOU want to live amidst vacant houses which become home to vagrants, drunks, bums, drug dealers, and children playing with matches?

If you don't want to live in a community like the above paragraph describes, then you best start screaming about all the tax dollars being used to exempt the rich from paying their taxes.  And on top of taxpayers footing the bill to fix these buildings up in large part and then taxpayers paying the total tax bills, then the taxpayers have to pay sales tax on top of that. But then, what can you buy anyway without leaving Schdy?  OK, you can go to Nisky, Glenville, and yeah, even Rotterdam Mall, to find stores in which to buy things.

And I will do what I can to help too................I will CONSTANTLY research and make known where taxes are going, and I WILL have OFFICIAL DOCUMENTATION to support my comments.  And I WILL continue finding more properties owned by rich developers, business owners etc, that your buddy dems exempt these rich from paying property taxes making the poor financially struggling people pay these taxes in addition to paying their own.

Official song of the DEM controlled Chamber of Commerce and the Arts and Drunk District! {A&DD}

So far we haven't any positive ideas-only cheer leading for socialism that hasn't worked and will never work. The City is in a completely nose dive-with revenues in the toilet and expenses exploding. The Mayor is clueless and then cooks up an illegal contact to give someone overtime who is prohibited by law from receiving it. The chickens are also coming home to roost for this mismanaged County. A nursing home that is bonded but not sited, sales tax revenues DOWN and no leadership.

My considerable record of community service is one that I am proud of.   I will not be silenced by the Nattering Nayboobs of Negativity like MC and MT or any of their vile ilk.   As I have said before, this is a free country
and I WILL exercise my Constitutional rights.

First, although community service is something to be proud of, it is not becoming when someone brags about it like you do. It dirties up the words 'community service' when it is used for self promotion or self elevation.

Second, I don't think anyone is preventing you from exercising your constitutional rights. However, everyone else has the constitutional right to disagree with you. Wouldn't you agree?

Question though.......why are you so obsessed with defending yourself? What do you care? Just askin'.

I am not bragging .. I was responding to the idiot who claims that I have not done anything for the
community.

The answer to your question about Constitutional rights is obvious ... but I am NOT going to let a bunch
of two-bit, baboon-faced thus make baseless accusations about me.

Go to one of the schools down town and volunteer to teach the kids how drugs are bad for them.   Explain to them that the three guys standing on the corner are not triplets wearing the same "colors" because thats the way their mommy dressed them.  Volunteer at a homeless shelter and help a child living there do their homework.  Yes, the school bus stops at the shelters.  While you are there, help someone find a job so they can move into a home and provide for their family.  Spend a little time down town with the locals and get to know them better.  See what their lives are like.  Watch over the children that play in the street and have to dodge the bullets of the gangs driving around.  Telling people how great the city is isnt going to get things changed.  Telling people how bad it is will make others see that something needs to be done about it.  And putting your hands into it and getting them dirty will work too.  Making it all look pretty isnt going to help.  You have to work with the people that actually live there to help them.  There are a lot of good people in the city.  But not enough to work miracles.

EXCELLENT POST.  WAIT, EXCELLENT CHALLENGE to DV.  He needs to learn what it's like to be a homeowner in a high crime city, trying to determine whether to skip on meds or skip the utility bill this month in order to pay the property and school tax bills of the millionaires downtown

And he calls himself Catholic.  What would Jesus do?   Would He exempt those rich ones downtown from paying property and school taxes?   Would Jesus make the financially struggling residential taxpayers of the city cover the cost of all those tax exemptions?   Would He, DV?  Would He?

Its true though.  If you want to help a community and do community service, you have to know what the community needs.  I applaud the Guyanese and the others in Hamilton Hill for fixing up some of the run down houses.  Its starting to look nice on some blocks.  But there are other areas that could use a little sprucing up.  When/If people come to visit our city, they have to be safe.  These people will report on line about their experiences.  I myself look up hotels and shops on line to see what others are reporting on them so that I can make a better choice.  I would wonder if any of these people would send their child to one of the schools?  I know the elementary schools arent that bad but the middle and high schools could use some improvement.  And thats speaking nicely.  I personally wouldnt send my child to the middle schools or the highschool.  I know its not as safe as it needs to be.  But there are some families that cant afford to live somewhere else and they have no choice.  And Im not even speaking about those that collect welfare.  Im talking about hard working people that just dont make enough money.  And now think about all those that are losing unemployment because they lost their job.  Now they have nothing.  Where will they go?  And I know that when you are on unemployment, they make you look for a job and they assist you.  If you dont take their assistance, they cut you off.  Now they dont even have that.

He can't answer.  Tell us DV, you CLAIM to be Catholic.  Would Jesus take money from the financially struggling taxpayers in Schenectady to give 100% tax exemptions to the millionaires?????

Well, would He??????

You won't answer a Yes or No to that, will you.

Just a simple ONE WORD answer                Yes    or      No
