A milestone in the life of Al Goldberger, Schenectady's acting corporation counsel, was acknowledged at last week's City Council meeting.
Council President Gary McCarthy noted that it was Goldberger's birthday. The announcement prompted a robust applause from city officials and commoners in the peanut gallery.
McCarthy said it was the 80th birthday. After the meeting, he mentioned that Goldberger was a member of the city's law department on and off for the past 20 years.
Besides his City Hall work, he has had a private law practice since 1958.
Goldberger began filling in for L. John Van Norden after the city's corporation counsel for the last seven years called in sick early in June. At the time, Van Norden said he would need a few weeks to recover from a suspected heart attack that proved to be a false alarm.
McCarthy confirmed that Van Norden is still on the city payroll, but he did not know the status of his illness or when he would return.
The beat goes on-another day-another fiscal outrage. And nobody knows from nuthin. No wonder these DEM morons can't balance a budget. It's not just City pension padding-EVERYTHING is awry.
