I have to disagree on the budget increase spin you adhere to. The supervisor had pared it down to 7% after the Tentative was introduced and had Nikki and Matt approached the Supervisor there was an opportunity for a minimal tax increase if one at all.
Spin? The supervisor and deputy supervisor was intending to pass a budget with a 7% tax increase. The other three board members came up with reductions to lower that tax raise by 4%. No spin, just facts. It takes both sides to want to work with one another. Shame on the fool that believes he/she can do it by themselves, esspecially when you only have 2 out of 5 votes. |

So how did they commit fraud?
Do you really need that explained to you? |

So how did they commit fraud?
From what I hear the resident signed the affavavit for an exemption which has been the practice for years for this particular resident. (The deceased spouse is/was still on the tax bill and the affadavit and probably still listed in the phone book.) You know how seniors are eh GB? The resident has always submitted the affadavit signing the deceased spouse's name and submitting it to the assessor's office. I have heard that the person even filed a death certificate with the assessor's office, (that is how the assessor knew the spouse was dead! ) The assessor's office instructed the person to bring the affadavit up to Eunice to notorize the document even though the assessor and his staff are either notories or commissioner of deeds themselves and could have done this without event or penalty or just crossed out the signature. Once the woman returned, the assessor stated, "we got Eunice and promptly called GP who inturn called KR who inturn called the Dept of State (where KR's mother either works or once worked) and the fix was on three days before elections. Except it blew up on GP just like the rest of the ticket did. (GP is a spoiled brat used to getting his way by hook or crook it seems.) (Ask his many rumored love conquests for that opinion I guess.) I loved playing connect the dots as a kid and still consider myself a pretty good connect the dots guru!!! As always alot of rumor and speculation and of course IN MY HUMBLE OPINION!!!! This is the way it supposedly went down! K??? |

All those involved in this episode should be arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit fraud and with fraud. I have never trusted GP or KR ... they should have the book thrown at them. |

With words like 'rumor' and 'speculation' and 'opinion' and 'supposedly', this sounds like a page out of a fiction book! The only 'fact' rotterdamians know is that Eunie admitted to fraud.............the rest is mere speculation. And the way 'rotterdam turns', it will stay that way! imho of course! |

The rest is more than "mere speculation" --- that is why it needs to be investigated by a Grand Jury. |

Grand jury's don't investigate. Investigators do that. |

I don't believe the evidence was ever presented to a Grand Jury. |

Maybe there IS no evidence. It surely would have come out by now. |

As long as the statute of limitations is not up -- the evidence is still useful. |

Funny you should mention "Barney Fife" - cause you remind me of "Aunt Bea" (an old maid) |

OK...sometimes you guys REALLY confuse me. I want to make a couple of quick statements before I get into this. First, you all want lower taxes regardless of political bent. And second, you all think Schenectady County(and New York State by extension) has high taxes. Can we all agree on those facts?
Now, someone is proposing that there be an INVESTIGATION into the events that lead up to an investigation into notary fraud?!?
Just to backup a bit here and inject a bit of speculation...I SUSPECT the amount of money 'defrauded' Rotterdam by the notarized dead person didn't amount to much. Maybe it resulted in the offending resident saving a couple hundred dollars in taxes...NOW...let's do a tally on how much this affair costs taxpayers...the notary investigation involved the state department marching into Rotterdam and conducting interviews. It also involved an investigator pulling files from the town and then reviewing them. Then it took a hearing officer to review the case and make a determination. It also required the town to hire an or use its own attorney to represent EE.
Now do we have a calculator handy for all that? And are your fingers getting sore yet?
Ok, let's move on. As a spin-off result of the investigation, the town clerk freaks out and goes on paid leave, meaning the town needs to hire a part-time worker to assist the deputy who now serves as the full-time clerk.
Now 'the other side' wants a POLICE INVESTIGATION? Ok, fine. Let's add in some police overtime from the Rotterdam PD(who don't come cheap BTW) to poke around town hall. If there's a conflict, then the SP investigates and it costs even more...and then throw in the ADA from the county who needs to review the investigation and determine charges. If he or she does, then the case goes before the town justice. If they are felony charges, they get forwarded to the county for a GRAND JURY, so no the county is paying for a prosecutor and up to 16 grand jurors for the day. Then if there's an indictment, the town is on the hook for ANOTHER attorney because Surprise and Parisi were both town officials at the time of the alleged fraud...and you know they're both going to fight fraud allegations if they made it that far...
Still got that calculator? Well, I'll bet you folks every piece of dyed hair in EE's head that whatever amount it's showing after that tally is many times what the original homeowner benefited from getting a dead person notarized.
AND YOU WONDER WHY YOUR TAXES ARE HIGH?!? Get real.
