So if it was a "real" marriage, how are the kids legit? The whole thing is a crock.

This goes back almost 20 years. Things could have changed since then. A girl I use to work with was having her marriage annulled. They didn't have children. The initial cost was $500.00. The church told her it wouldn't take more than 6 months. After 9 months, she wanted to remarry someone else. The church told her that for another $500, they could rush it through in 2 week. She paid and they did.

How wonderful. So what happens when you have kids and your wife cheats as in the case of Dracula. You pay money and they throw the failed marriage into the trash can to wipe the slate clean? What does that say to the kids?

What a load.

I doubt that this happened in the Diocese of Albany --- the Diocese's policy has been pretty much as I
described it since the late 1970's or early 1980's ... definitely as of 1981.

I know that other dioceses have different policies .. and I couldn't nor wouldn't comment on those other
dioceses policies and procedures.

As for children, the official Catholic Church teaching is that NO child is "illegitimate" -- even a child born
outside of marriage.     Applying the term "illegitimate" to a child was something that others OUTSIDE the
church may have done or, in some cases, secular governments ... but definitely NOT the Church.

don't know any better.

I didn't call anyone a liar.    I know for a fact that the Diocese of Albany's policy about annullments was
NOTHING like what she described after about 1980.

Have you ever been divorced and inquired in person what has to be done to get an annulment instead of just parroting the propaganda from the church?

No but a) I had two very close relatives go through the annullment process in the early 1980's between 1980 and 1982 and  b) I studied the Canon Law of Marriage in graduate school.
