ALBANY -- Here's the bad news: Crime is rising in the Capital Region's cities.

Now here's the good part: Depending on where you live, violent crime could be going down.

The most recent figures from the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, which tracks crime statistics and trends, showed that crime is increasing in the cities of Albany, Schenectady and Troy.

But unlike Schenectady and Troy, violent crime is dropping in Albany.

New York's capital city has also seen wide drops in violent and non-violent crime since 2000, while Schenectady and Troy have witnessed increases in both areas in that time.

Albany did see a 9.2 percent spike in "index" crimes -- which cover murders, rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, larcenies and stolen cars -- from 2009 to 2010 over the time period of Jan. 1 and Nov. 1 both years.

Asked about the increase Thursday, Detective James Miller, a spokesman for Albany police, said, "We're still driving down violent crime, which is extremely important. The index crime has gone up and it's strictly a result of property crime ... It's something we're very aware of. It's something we're looking at every day."

Burglaries in Albany have jumped from 260 in November to 295 this past September, while car thefts dropped from 29 to 15 the DCJS data showed. Overall, property crimes in Albany rose in that span from 381 to 400 or 11.4 percent. And violent crime -- which includes murders, rapes, robberies and assaults -- dropped from 95 to 88.

In Schenectady, the rate of index crimes increased 7.8 percent between 2009 to 2010 covering January to November both years. Violent crime increased 18.4 percent over the span and property crime increased 5.8 percent.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

The crime rate is down in Schenectady -- including murders -- according to the FBI crime statistics.
.

Well DV, what have you got to say now?   Where are those alleged statistics?   Or did you just say that prior to election hoping someone would believe your tales.

Almost a 20% increase in murder, rape and other violent crimes. Guess that $10 million dollar downtown can't hide the real facts that the City is turning into a cesspool. From Metroplex to the Hill, the corruption is oozing from the top/down

Thanks MT for the facts!

Well, the shell casings and chalk body outlines are surrounded by newer buildings.  The detours around the police tape cordoned off areas, however, can make one late for a show if you one doesn't plan accordingly.

Proctor's should stage more murder mysteries and "who done its".  Would have plenty to work with in Schenectady.

Thank the Times Union - they're the ones not in the pockets of the controlling party, and they aren't afraid to report the facts.  They've grown their own set - have REAL investigators doing reporting - and aren't gonna be shut up by any of the cronies in Schenectady.  They consistently report the Schenectady news that the local "hometown" paper doesn't.

Wanna really thank them? Call them for a subscription, that's how we can show support for what they're doing!

No, I don't work there (not even close)

Gee, DV has not posted here.

Proof from official sources that totally disproves DV's claims that Schenectady is much improved.

DV is always speechless when proven wrong.

SO, DV, you have nothing to say about the increasing crime rate?   You have nothing to say about Savage giving out tax dollars to the rich downtown people instead of haviing those tax dollars used for public safety in the city?
