44th District: Susan Savage                              (directly from the Times-Union ..there words not mine)

Ms. Savage, a Schenectady Democrat, has a record of accomplishments as chair of the Schenectady County Legislature, not the least of which is the leadership she brought to help spur Schenectady's revitalization. The county's budget-cutting initiatives, like the use of lower-cost prescription drugs from Canada, have allowed three tax cuts in five years. She wants to bring such ideas to state government, and to relieve property taxpayers of Medicaid costs. She sees the need for strong, bipartisan upstate voices in the Senate.

Incumbent Sen. Hugh Farley of Niskayuna has been in office 34 years. While he undoubtedly has helped his constituents, he also personifies the problem of excessive incumbency. He has routinely used taxpayer-funded Senate mailers for nothing more than campaign material and taken trips of questionable public value at taxpayer expense. He would have voters believe such a senior senator had no hand in last year's disastrous coup.

Our endorsement of Ms. Savage is qualified, though. Ms. Savage is married to an Albany lobbyist, Steve Weingarten, whose firm, Weingarten, Reid & McNally, lobbies on a wide variety of bills. She must scrupulously avoid conflicts here, and that could well require her to abstain frequently on votes. Ms. Savage says she will make her schedule public, ban lobbying of her office by her husband's firm, and push for formal rules to address such relationships.

Oh, that really changes my vote.

Put a yellow journalist fork in her. She's done.

If the Times Union endorses one of the Regressives/Republicans   ... they think it is a great thing.

When the Times-Union endorses  the opponent of one of the Regressive/Republican candidates ...
suddenly they don't want to say anything.

well, it is SOOOOOO unusual when they DO endorse a republican that it makes your eyes pop out of your head. But who gives a sh*t what the assholes who make 5 dollars an hour who work at the newspapers pushing ink, think. Give me a break.

Oh no Ron? We should see who has accomplished more and gone further. I would debate anyone, any democrap- in America, anytime, anywhere and you are the least of them.  No one scares me but God, and as far as standing up to anyone intellectually: you are some of the lightest lightweight material made, despite your pear-shaped physique.

So basically, the Times Union thinks Savage will separate her opinions from her husbands work?!? REALLY?!? This is the worst endorsement I've read. Had that paper an ounce of journalistic integrity, they would have made no endorsement at all. Farley might not be a good candidate for the office and he probably does deserve to be voted out. But not for a self-serving shill for a lobbyist, which is exactly what Savage is.

Pretty much the Times Union is weighing two flawed candidates, and opted for the better of the two.
If we stick with Farley, we know what we'll get... More of the same.

With Savage, we MAY get better representation than with Farley.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

Agreed -- the only way to change Albany is throw out all the incumbents  -- and Farley is one of the
dinosaurs that has to go.

BTW -- on the outside influence issue .... am I the only one who questions the 10's of thousands of dollars
Farley  (and other incumbents of BOTH parties) have taken from fatcats and special interest groups.

Personally - if I were running FOR ANY OFFICE --- I wouldn't take any contribution over $ 250.
