anyhow,,once all those electric cars are zoom-zoom-zooming around, a kiosk will just become a battery charge station courtesy of GE      and directly connected to ones bank account and Real ID.....no thought required.....

go ahead,,,,,,plug into the matrix

Parking kiosks in Schenectady will only deter shoppers

In rebuttal to the Nov. 3 editorial [‘Schenectady going cosmopolitan with parking kiosks’] regarding parking kiosks, I believe Schenectady and the Gazette are looking at the issue backward. Some key points grabbed my attention in the editorial.
The statement was made that automated parking lot booths would eliminate parking lot attendants. Increasing unemployment should not be the city’s goal, and those attendants may provide some deterrent to thieves. The people who (now) empty the meters would meet the same fate. This would help with the $100,000 needed for front money for the new system, so I guess those people are worth sacrifi cing.
I was taken aback by the comment in the editorial “ … those who still think free parking is their God-given right.” Wow! Let me turn so you can slap the other side!
Look at the issue from the taxpayers’ side; we already pay lots of taxes but our elected representatives ruined the economy so now our various levels of government are looking for “revenue sources” to reduce deficits. That means fees, surcharges and other means of taxing the citizens, without using the word “tax.”
It certainly is convenient to add to a meter via credit card and cellphone while eating in a restaurant. Wait — I have to pay for the privilege of spending money at a local business because I was audacious enough to park on a public street (maintained by the city at taxpayer’s expense)? Derision is too kind for foolish ideas like this.
As the economy continues to stall, taxpayer/consumers are being told we have to keep putting more money into governments, so we have less to spend — then the “experts” wonder why the recovery doesn’t progress. If you want consumers to spend money with businesses, make it easier on the consumers — not harder.

Why hasn't anyone invented meters that just work off the EZ-Pass system yet?

No one is in favor of this stupidity. It was not even mentioned at the City Council meeting. These DEM idiots keep comparing Schenectady to booming metropolises. Aside from the occasional musical the lots are totally empty. This is another way to write a parking ticket-end of story. Chase more business to Saratoga County. Then will wonder why they can't pay our fire fighters.

The DEM morons ruining the City are out of ideas. The early retirement and working together "plans" were complete flops. Hoist up another trial balloon that can be shot down. The party is over next year.
