Gazette Reveals Farley Spent $167K on Self-Promotional Taxpayer-Funded Mailings
“In the past two years, state Sen. Hugh Farley, R-Niskayuna, has spent $167,000 on bulk mail and postage, making him the biggest spender on such items among local state legislators.”
Rotterdam – The Schenectady Daily Gazette has unearthed data showing 34-year Albany incumbent Hugh Farley has wasted $167,000 on self-promotional taxpayer-funded mailings leading up to this year’s election, even as families are finding it more difficult to pay their taxes and workers across the 44th District are still losing their jobs. This revelation comes just one day after the public learned Senator Farley pocketed nearly $40,000 for travel junkets on the taxpayers’ dime to vacation destinations such as Hawaii, Miami, and Las Vegas.

“Senator Farley is indifferent to the struggles of working families,” said Susan Savage, candidate for the 44th Senate District and Chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature.

Farley’s self-promotional taxpayer-funded mailings continue to hit mailboxes, less than 30 days before the November 2nd election. Additionally, the administration of Farley’s office costs taxpayers $730,000 annually (also the most among any state legislator of either party), an enormous cost even though Farley does not chair any committee or hold any leadership post within the Chamber.

In comparison to Farley’s carefree spending, in Fulton County – an area represented but ignored by Senator Farley since 1976 – local taxpayers have an annual adjusted gross income of just about $30,000.

“Families are struggling to get by on less and less, but Hugh Farley is spending more and more,” Susan Savage said. “In Schenectady County I have saved taxpayers money by cutting the public payroll by 12% and lowering property taxes 4 of the last 6 years to provide much-needed relief. Residents of Montgomery, Fulton, Saratoga and Schenectady Counties cannot afford Albany politicians who do not understand the needs of working families, and who continue to treat them as a blank check.”

The DEMS have thrown in the towel in this race but no one called DVOR.

EVERYONE does this and SS Savage will too she ever gets elected to State office. Another indication of a campaign in free fall with no message.

Really don't think the Gazette can salvage the Savage. She made a complete fool of herself with her political commercial. If she really believes that Schenectady is a miracle, well then she needs to get out more! Cooperstown? Saratoga? Glens Falls even revived its once desolate downtown without taxpayer money! Within the past 6 years, Savage did increase taxes twice - it's the old game of taking one step forward and five steps back. She hasn't saved you or I money. That's a lie.

Mr. Farley made a fool of himself in Saratoga last night --- admitting quote  "I was only a part of
the problem in Albany."

He also admitted that in the 34 years that he was our State Senator he did NOTHING to relieve the
unfunded state mandate of Medicaid  --- but that if reelected he would - finally - do something.

I think Farley wants to get reelected so that he can take another vacation to Disney World and send
me  -- the taxpayer -- the bill for his trip.

How about Savage hiring a PR MAN at taxpayer expense to do her self-glorifying publicity??? That is about 70K PER YEAR! Defend that DVOR!

Farley won the first debate that less than one hundred people attended. Unlike her, he has a sense of humor. Thousands saw SS Savage make a complete fool out of herself with her hilarious miracle commercial. This will end her political "career". She will be removed as "leader" of the County Legislature. The DEMS can't have a laughingstock in a leadership position-especially with some many DEM seats up next year. This race is over-a final blowout for Senator Farley.

Farely spends wayyyyy too much money.  But it is hard to debate him on that issue if in fact it is used to stay in contact with the voters.  It was unfortunate that SS came out fighting.  Farley's "thank you for the warm welcome" made her look like Paladino.  She is better than that--smarter than that.  Would hate to see her out of politics.

The 100 people were not primarily local residents, they were far left wing activists from Skidmore, a group of heckling gays and lesbians (as pointed out by my wife) and a bunch of folks wearing WFP T-shirts and waving Savage signs on the side of the highway before the event. The locals have made up their mind and even the far left league of democrap women vultures couldn't interest them in the Savage candidacy. There were about 10 locals there who were well behaved, and the rest were bussed in activists who snickered and made gesticulations and heckled when the gentleman senator spoke. My wife and I decided to attend to see and our suspicions were confirmed. I saw DVOR there with some other leftists activists and I knew the Savagettes reached far and wide to drag people in. I recognized the African American gentlemen and ladies as the activists from ACORN and WFP who were canvassing with clipboards at the St Gabriel's Feast last moth, annoying people by asking their names, and I saw a college aged man who was in my neighborhood from ACORN as well, getting the locals irritated by polling them at their doorways.

Nobody other than the fraudulently registered ACORN voters and the easily tricked is voting for this Halloween masquerader this season. She wears a conservative costume but people realize she is not a conservative. Conservatives don't have a contigent of ACORN and WFP activists in tow with bumper stckers, signs and clipboards. She is crass, aggressive, tactless and mean, and people aren't buying what she is selling.

Well apparently the make Savage look good campaign didn't work so now they are resorting to the make Farley look bad and Savage look not as bad campaign message.

You don't hear from Farley until 3 months before an election -- and then he spends $85,000  of taxpayer
money to send a mailer to tell us that we should control state spending.    I  think it is easy to debate him
on this issue -- because he is a hypocrite ... spending like a drunk sailor and telling us to control our
spending.
