The City of Schenectady will hold the public hearing on Mayor Brian U. Stratton's proposed 2011 budget at its regular Council meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. Stratton has proposed to eliminate 19 firefighter positions and close a fire station, as well as eliminate parks maintenance staff, close three of four pools and take away 12 police officer positions as part of the proposed $76.9 million 2011 budget. Unionized firefighters plan to protest the budget outside City Hall Tuesday afternoon.
There will be a separate public hearing on Stratton's proposed curb fee that would charge all property owners, including nonprofits, for road services. That hearing is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at City Hall.
City Council must pass the budget by Nov. 1.
