Speaking of, since this includes non-profits, will Proctors need to start paying - or will they get Plex assistance to pay that bill?

Can't wait to see how this plays out

Stratton should be ashamed of himself. How can he live the way he lives and expect people to afford these outrageous taxes!

He laid an egg. A fiscal nit wit who delegated everything to political hacks. Everyone is saying "He's got to go"! This includes DEMS.

Why doesn't he lead by example and cut his outrageous pay and return his taxpayer vehicle?

In 2005, Metroplex received $7 million in taxpayer monies. Here's a wacky idea STOP METROPLEX! Save all the taxpayers their property tax increases, take back all the tax breaks the Plex has given out over the years and bring business to Schenectady without some overpriced Authority claiming to be generating revenue. The initial role of Metroplex is to "increase the tax base"..they've failed and now it's time to take back our money.

Wake up Mr. Stratton, we're tired of your lack of leadership.

Right on McQueen. Stop funding nonprofits especially the horrible DSIC. That would save $5 million and prevent any police/fire cuts.

I guess Mayor SOS doesn't want the IND or CONS lines-lol. Maybe this will finally wake some political "leaders" up.

Thank you SS Savage for the .3% mini cut. That will go a long way with horrible Mayor's new curb fee, yearly tax increase totaling 9%, with layoffs of both fire fighters and police.

Some miracle? SS Savage "campaign" is finished for lying about Downtown which is still a huge mess. Working together never works. A bunch of clapping seals that said nothing while Death Ray was grabbing a huge salary with no results.

Where are the jobs Death Ray? Where is the County sales tax increase SS Savage?  Where are the cuts Mr. Mayor? 3 failures that should all resign in total disgrace.

Stratton has to travel to all the Dem conferences and mingle with the progressives to learn how to tax more money out of the taxpayer legally when you're at the legal limit and how to waste more money on things like Erie Blvd and State St.

Cities face hard choices on budgets
By Lauren Stanforth Staff Writer
Published: 05:57 p.m., Monday, October 4, 2010

SCHENECTADY -- Mayor Brian U. Stratton wants to ease next year's tax impact on property owners by placing a street services fee on everyone -- including large nonprofits such as Ellis Hospital and Union College -- in an effort to help close a $6 million budget gap.

Stratton's proposed 2011 budget, which was presented to the City Council on Monday night, also calls for closing one of the city's four fire stations, ceasing routine maintenance on all parks and closing three of four city pools.

"There's not a whole lot of choice here beyond raising taxes through the roof," Stratton said Monday shortly before releasing his $76.9 million spending plan, which includes a 4 percent property tax increase.

Stratton said he is proposing what is called a "curb fee" based on a similar system done in Rochester for the last 30 years. John Paolino, the city's director of administration, said property owners would be assessed a fee based on their property's linear footage along city streets. The fee is meant to cover services such as snowplowing, street lighting and pavement maintenance. The mayor wants to raise $1.4 million from curb fees to drop the tax increase from 8.8 to 4 percent. But how much the fee would be how much large nonprofits would pay has not been determined. Stratton, who has unsuccessfully appealed to nonprofits in the past to pay for city services, said Monday he hadn't run the plan by them yet................................>>>>.........................>>>>.........................http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Cities-face-hard-choices-on-budgets-687310.php

He hasn't got the cajones to face them - tell them the story, just bombshell them via the local media.

Nice job on transparency and your commitment to services.

Q: What are your key priorities as Mayor?

“I think services are #1. I came in to my job with a mandate for financial management because there really was none here. The city has gone through five financial directors in eight years. So I put my money in, and I hired two financial professionals. I have qualified people who know what they are doing. My priority was to invest resources in top quality management that could not only manage the city but also find out just how deep our financial problem is. We’ve also put money into public services. We want to make sure pot holes are filled, that roads are plowed properly, and neighborhoods are kept clean. Those are the basic issues that the tax payers and city residents react to every day.

Horrible SOS wants to ease property tax burden by coming up with another illegal stunad fee? Then instead of cutting his salary or returning his City vehicle he pads his travel fund. On top of that the first thing out of the Council is that they will keep open the firehouse and all four pools. Forget about looking at "paper clip" expenses? They refuse to cut the useless job killing DSIC or the Erie Blvd debacle.

Prediction: All firefighters will be reinstated and all firehouses kept open. They will take the money out of reserves and screw the County. See working together can work.

There are no details. There are no real cuts. Erie and DSIC will have to be cut by the Council.

SOS added $30,000 to his travel fund his Conference of Mayor post! He refuses to lead. Absolutely disgusting that he pads his travel expenses at the same time he is laying off vital police and firemen.
