Put this in your "working together works" column. In today's {9/21/10} Marv Cermak's column he states that the DEM morons in the City finance department are considering a 25% increase in record City property taxes! They have refused to belt tighten or layoff anyone for years. Now they must layoff police, fire and increase taxes that no one can afford. If this is proposed Mayor Stratton and the 36 year DEM death grip on the Schenectady City Council are over. This will only result in more middle class flight from the poorly run City.

Have already heard several prominent GOP business people that are looking at the Mayor's/Council race next year. DEMS are also plotting a move. The whole house of cards is ready to topple.

There is always "talk" of the City GOP making a comeback .. but since there are only enough
City GOPers to fill the large booth at a diner ..  the talk usually doesn't amount to much.

A very simple answer ---
Ms. Savage -as Chairperson of the COUNTY Legislature - has proposed a tax decrease for COUNTY taxes ..  she is not in charge of the City budget nor the city taxes.
You would have to address questions about the city budget and city taxes to .. guess what .. CITY
OFFICIALS not to the County.

SS Savage is going down to a huge defeat. The truth of the matter is that some of this record deficit is also her fault. She refuses to increase County sales tax revenues to the City. They are stuck at 1990 levels. Where is the Metrograft dividend?-lol. The City also refuses to get a PILOT from Union College or other nonprofits that are sucking the City dry.

The entire "working together" team is falling apart. The City wants to stop paying the County for the huge growing amount of delinquent properties {as Albany does}. The County wants to withhold payments to the City. Both entities are totally mismanaged by DEMS whose first concern is always padding the payroll with political hacks.

Some would argue that the City already gets a much bigger share of the sales tax .. than it
deserves  --- I have always believed that Rotterdam doesn't get its fair share of the sales tax pie.

I'll second that.  It also doesn't get it's share of the sales tax revenue when it comes to Metroplex spending, or the Hotel and Motel tax.

You're right. But then don't go around lying about some "miracle" when the City can't even keep it's current police and fire protection levels.

My point is that Savage could have done something-purposely did nothing-lies about it-and now wants the voters to believe her "rebirth" BS. The only "rebirth" is going to be in the opposition next year. Had enough-YET?

I thought Metroplex was going so well and was gonna help us reduce taxes.  Weird, guess I was wrong.

Taxes and layoffs
Marv Cermak

Schenectady City Hall insiders say early figure juggling for the 2011 budget has come up with a potential property tax increase of between 20 to 25 percent.

The situation is so grim, I'm told there will be layoffs of some police officers and firefighters. Public safety costs absorb more than 40 percent of the entire city budget.

The city is facing a year-end deficit of more than $11 million.

"Just making up for the unpaid property taxes and the added pension expense translates into a roughly 12 percent tax increase," a city official said privately. "We have to lay off essential workers to avoid a bloated tax increase because people can't even afford to pay the existing tax rates."............>>>>.............>>>>..............http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Frequent-shootings-get-a-bit-unnerving-667234.php

Savage and Stratton have done MORE to improve the City of Schenectady than any GOP poltician --
what has Hugh Farley done for Shenectady  .. NOTHING .. except collect a HUGE state pension and
a HUGE Senate salary to sit on his a** and let New York State go down the drain for 34 years.

And while Ms. Savage may not be perfect .. she would be a CHANGE from the "DO NOTHING but still
collect over $200,000 a year of tax payer money Farley"

Theme from 'Deliverance' anyone?

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
