WORKING TOGETHER has landed schenectady county the highest taxed in the state!!! Rampant crime, street gangs, drug dealers, pan handlers, empty homes and businesses, a lucrative welfare handout and pot holes in the streets that you could loose your car in.

mixing burritos and alchohol.

The Curry Road Shopping Center was vacated by KMart and Price Chopper in the late 1980's -
Grand Union on Hamburg St was vacated in the early 1990's.
Those events were BEFORE the Democrats gained control of the County Legislature under the
banner of "working together works".

The empty apartments down on the aquifer were the product of the last GOP administration in
Rotterdam.

So you can't pin the blame for those issues on the current County Legislature.

SCHENECTADY
Killing evokes fears of crime

BY MICHAEL GOOT Gazette Reporter

As police on Sunday identified the victim of this weekend’s fatal shooting as 18-year-old Terrill Reese Jr., area residents feared that despite bright new storefronts added downtown during the past few years, crime is still a major problem in the city.
Officers found Reese at about 3 p.m. Saturday lying in the middle of Tremont Avenue with a fatal gunshot wound to his chest.
Police department spokesman Adriel Linyear said authorities do not yet have a motive or suspect in the case. Linyear confirmed that Reese was a resident of the city but did not have a specifi c address.
A woman who answered a Florida telephone number for a Terrill Reese identified herself as the wife of Reese’s father and said the family had no comment.
In his photo on his Facebook page, Reese makes a gesture with his fingers at the camera. He wrote in capital letters next to his picture “Salute me or shoot me [expletive] ‘KC 21 Gunz Salute.’ ” He listed his high school as “Mohon.”
One of his Facebook friends wrote that Reese was a great person and she did not know who would try to hurt him.
Linyear also could not say if Saturday’s incident was connected to the shooting that injured a man early Friday morning outside Bombers Burrito Bar on State Street. The shooting followed an argument, according to authorities, but they have not released the name of the man who was struck in the thigh. The latter incident concerned Kathy O’Connor, owner of Vintage Art on Jay Street, who said her adult daughter frequents the restaurant. A customer in her store who preferred to remain anonymous said crime is a major issue in the city — even though its economic revitalization downtown has been touted in recent years.
“No matter how pretty you decorate the place, it’s still the same on the inside,” she said.
The woman added that she is in the field of social work and believes the city is attracting an infl ux of people engaged in drug selling that do not work because of the state’s generous welfare and Medicaid benefits. The children are just a product of their environment, she said.
Rich LeZette of Glenville, who was walking downtown Sunday, said he believes crime has gotten worse, possibly because of the economy. It is having an effect on people’s attitude, he said.
“A lot of people look scared, look nervous. Walking down the street, I don’t see too many smiles,” he said, adding that fear of crime is probably hurting local businesses.
“Nothing is happening after the sun goes down because the people are scared,” he said.
Another downtown visitor who didn’t wish to be identified cited an increasing acceptance of violence to solve confl icts.
“I think it’s pathetic that people resort to weapons instead of words,” she said.
Dawn Nathan of Pattersonville, who works at a Schenectady restaurant, said a friend of hers was mugged recently.
“They put a knife to his back and took his watch and took the last $7 in his pocket,” she said.
Courtney Marston of Schenectady, also a downtown restaurant employee, said the drug problem is out of control. “You can see them dealing right on the streets.”
Both said they fear walking alone at night.
Steve Joyner of Schenectady said more youth activities are needed.
“If you had someplace for these young folks to go then there wouldn’t be that much of a problem,” he said.
Edith Pedersen, who lives on Watt Street just down the street from where Reese was shot, said violence is nothing new on the street. She can hear shots fired on the street on a regular basis and worries about the safety of her three children, with another on the way. ................>>>>................>>>>...................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00101&AppName=1

The Dems and Reps can both take a bow for the lack of intelligent development in Rotterdam because they both have been guilty of poor planning during their administrations for many years.

A mugging for $7 Downtown? I don't believe it. SS Savage/Death Ray/Mercury Morris have repeatedly stated there is no crime Downtown. Maybe a rape, shoot gun shooting but no real crime.

"Nothing is happening after sundown." This must be a typo. Everyone knows that SS Savage/Death Ray/Mercury Morris promised a 24 hour Downtown. Is the sub shop still closing at 3pm? These idiots have wasted over $100 million on the "arts" that could have opened dozens of business/industrial parks and provide thousands of real jobs. Not hot dog jobs.

Well Well Well..........the gazette has finally 'attempted' to touch on the real fears of increased crime plaguing schenectady county residents and business people.

The generous welfare and medicaid benefits are STATEWIDE and yet we don't hear or read about these violent crimes in Saratoga or Clifton Park as well as other counties. ONLY IN SCHENECTADY COUNTY!!

Could it be the 'leadership'????

You do hear of crime in Saratoga when some Schenectady moron gets tanked up and stabs innocents.

The solutions are hilarious-More youth activities? Just wait until the new library addition is opened! Then these gang bangers can curl up with a good book and warm milk {low fat of course} supplied by Nanny SS Savage. The whole house of cards is falling in on the DEMS and we have 6 more weeks of this comedy boffo.

So, it was part of the last administration, and the Democrats in the County Legislature have had power for how long???  And how long (like the newbies at the town level) will it take for them to "figure things out and get answers to us?"  Should we also be submitting these questions to them in writing?  They are the ones in control and have been for a few years now.  There's plenty that could have been done, especially in the almost 23 years that the Curry Road Shopping Center has been vacated, but I guess you're right, the County Dems have been in power for at LEAST the past 5 years (giving us massive tax cuts in at least 3 of those years, right), but they just haven't been able to figure out how to bring the Metroplex to help on Curry Road or Hamburg Street?  How many years should it be before we can see their "working together works" bringing "hope and change" to Rotterdam?  And where's the (illegal) federal money that Paul Tonko was going to turn around and help his district when he got to the House?

Anyway, blood runs on the streets of Schenectady because they try to beautify and bring business before attempting to change what made it look like it did before they pumped tens of millions of (our) dollars into it to make it "beautiful and revived."

Right on BT. Father Flanagan Lumpy Kosiur who got a $80,000 booby prize from the "working together" miracle worker. Just what we need more taxpayer funded day camps?

I have never seen a campaign as bad as SS Savage's. Everyone is laughing at her idiotic commercials. Her death grip on our County is coming to an end after this complete embarrassment.

Well ben, it looks like not only Susan Savage has failed miserably at her position, so did Kosiur!! There are street gangs every where in schenectady county!!! Good job Savage for giving Kosiur a patronage job for $80K that he can't seem to get a handle on!!! What the hell does he do all day anyway???? What has he ACTUALLY accomplished?????

Perhaps Savage and Kosiur can propose yet ANOTHER taxpaid program for these violent kids, huh??? Cause the others are working soooooooo well!
