those at the top knew it was coming...dont think they didn't know about the housing bubble......the fastest way to raise the tax base is make sure there are folks in homes....the problem was they ran out of good candidates
for home ownership.....both parties were involved in this.....do we really think that the DEMS/REPS have separate banks/companies in which they put their $$$?????? honestly when they are taking millions of their own money
and investing it into their own campaign-----who are the fools???? WE ARE.......

Maintaining an accurate roll of taxable properties is like doing exercise to keep in good health ...
it may be a pain and you'd rather not get up early every morning to do it.  But if you don't do it -
your health gets worse and then you need  significant medical procedure  (kind of like 40 years ago
we realized we needed a reval)   ... but heck .. we went  so many years without exercise and we are
not crazy bout this significant medical procedure ..   so lets wait a few more year ......
time pases ... 20 years, 30 years, 40 years --- 50 years  ....  now you need more than a significant
medical procedure  .... you need major surgery

now you have the choice between 2 doctors  -- one says you need the major surgery that you really
don't want -- but he knows what he is doing.
  The other doctor says the surgery is too expensive and 'well, you can put it off if it makes you feel
happier  --- but I really WANT to be your doctor...
because I need the patients and the paycheck.    So be my patient and I won't force you to have the
surgery.

well -- then you find out that you MUST have the surgery or die ... but you are upset at the first
doctor because  he kept telling you to exercise and do unpleasant stuff-- and well   ..
the 2nd doctor seemed nicer and was willing to let you feel happy by only telling you what you wanted to hear.

So you hire the second doctor to do the surgery (which by the way he has never done before)  and he
really is afraid to tell you or anyone that he doesn't know what he is doing.   So he opens you up ..
starts the surgery .. gets it about 60% done .. but  decides "I really didn't believe in this surgery to
begin with"  ... so he stops before the surgery is completed -- sews you up ..and sends you home.

Now 2 or 3 years later --- you are even sicker than you were before.   Who should you be upset at
the 1st doctor who kept nagging you to exercise and wanted you to get the procedure done earlier
and who was an expert at the procedure   --- or  --- the 2nd doctor who seemed nice .. didn't care if
you exercised ... didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable by talking about the surgical procedure,
and who because -- by gum he is a man of principles -- decided it was better to NOT finish the
already started procedure than to finish something that he didn't believe in from the start ???????

Preach to FDG about why HE didn't submit the proper permits for the value adding new structures and additions on his property, which would have helped maintain the accurate assessment on his property.

FDG is like the Thornton Melon of surgeons from the movie Back to School, he didn't go to class, paid people to do the work for him, ignored all the rules that everybody else had to play by.  Now, knowing FDG's checkered past, we trust him to perform surgery on the town, when he was part of the disease that got it sick.

So what about the new County Home coming to Curry Rd? That should really help all other property owners in town-lol.

     And the idiots in Town Hall say absolutely nothing. What a difference between this town and the real leaders in Glenville. In Glenville they said "No Way"-in Rotterdam they say nuthin and hope the problem goes away.

The point is, nobody WANTED a reval - it was mandated, and then ordered by Paolino. It should have been done YEARS previous. It wasn't. Then when it was done, it was done under questionable terms/circumstances, at the peak of the housing market.

Now, it can't be, and won't be re-done (yet) at the bottom of the market, as it would put many municipalities over their constitutional tax limit.

We just want it done RIGHT, and FAIR.


The peak of the market or not doesn't make a difference to the taxes you pay.  If the properties are valued correctly then proprtional share of taxes is just that, if your value is .5% of the total value of the town, then you pay .5% of the tax, no matter if your value is $100,000 or $1,000,000, taxes are driven by the budget.  The problem is the lot sizes were all screwed up, square footages were all screwed up all effecting the value of properties as being correct or not.  This entire process was made worse by many years of not keeping these current.

The values of the town properties after the reval were at 100% and they are now at 100%.  Whats the problem here folks?  Tommasone, Mertz, Signore, Parisi, Buchanan messed up.  They created a mirage and the voters saw right through it.  Buh Buh!

Ask Dan Tommasone why he got a significant reduction on his purchase price of $582,000 to $395,000.  Did GAR miscalculate his square footage?  Give him too much land value?  How about that nice built-in pool that was installed without a permit by the former owners.  Nice try Cicero.  Politicizing the assessor's office and challenging the GAR reval with a frivilous lawsuit at taxpayers expense did you in.  FACE IT!!!!

No, I do not ... and my philosophy is if you have an issue with a person .. take it up directly WITH
THAT PERSON.   talking about them behind their back doesn't solve the problem.  
Besides, Mr. Del Gallo is a very nice guy and is willing to talk to anyone about their concerns.

I agree with everything you posted.    
Some people - my family included - who have owned this property for over 70 years .. were probably
paying less than their share BEFORE the reval because the property value was based on what it was
worth in the 1950's.    I know that our property's value went UP as a result of the reval .. and thus our
tax bill went up --- but it wasn't like we weren't expecting some "upward correction" -- so we live with it
and pay our fair share.
Once the town gets the values updated -- and hopefully sets in place a good plan to keep it up to
date ---- THE BIGGER PROBLEM is the spending side.    
That opens up the basic question  -- what services do we HAVE to provide by law, what services do we
NEED to provide even if not required to by law, and what services do we WANT to provide because our
community feels it is a value and we can afford to offer ???

If you expect me to defend Tommasone, you're mistaken.  If what you claim is true, then FIX IT!  I'm not here to defend anybody.  My point has always been, that in Rottedam, there is a select group of individuals that were allowed to build value into their houses with no permits, without the building inspector, and without paying their fair share of taxes to the town.  Now, when a town wide reval happens and certain people were able to manipulate the reval to benefit them, those that see their assessments go up(FDG) are crying foul and blaming the previous Administration for not allowing them to continue cheating the town out of taxes.  What we have are cheaters and thieves calling the other person a cheater and a thief.  It's comical.  That's why I voted McGarry.
