Problems facing [Niskayuna] are receiving increasing attention, with good reason. I drove home from work July 27, between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., encountering an unusual traffic jam on Glenridge Road before Route 146. The northbound lane of Balltown Road was obstructed with the usual rush-hour traffi c. Frustration and unhappiness led to U-turns, driving on the shoulder and universal cellphone use. The road was blocked for 20-30 minutes. The absurd cause of the tie-up came into view on the Niskayuna side of the Rexford Bridge — a rush-hour “Boot Drop” — fund-raiser by firemen for the Jerry Lewis telethon that I later found out was sanctioned by the police and town supervisor. Public anger was palpable, with few contributions, rude finger gestures and a few drivers going quite close to the volunteers in an attempt to intimidate. I went to the police station to fi le a complaint against the stupidity and danger sanctioned by town offi cials; not because of my own inconvenience. On leaving the police department, I noted a Mr. Ding-a-Ling truck parked in front of the Town Hall entrance dropoff, where Town Board members were filing in to vote on the ice cream truck issue. It appeared to me from 100 feet away that Mr. Ding-a-Ling was trying to influence the small vote with free samples. I am not against ice cream or small business, but this seemed like tasteless politics. I turned right on Nott Street Extension, passing our post office with a “For Sale” sign in front. On my right was the 80 percent empty St. James Square, with four more lease and “For Sale” signs. I turned left at Balltown [Road] to do an errand at Mohawk Commons, which has a few more empty stores. I passed the once-gracious Stanford-Ingersoll home, which now stands as an ugly reminder of incredible greed for yet another mall, allowed by dysfunctional or absent town governance. A trip back to my home in Orchard Park revealed 18 properties for sale, lease or rent. Who is minding the store in Niskayuna? And when will the awful politics cease? We have fewer trees, more traffic, along with relatively higher taxation than surrounding areas. Perhaps voters should be more interested in careful civic scrutiny and pay some attention to quality of life, decent surroundings and the value of their property.
Just Niskayuna? Try driving elsewhere in the County. Like the corner of Balltown and State. I though Death Ray of Metrograft fame was leasing out St James Square?
WHO'S MINDING THE NISKY STORE??? Why ms.savage is. That is her hometown!!

Ha, we had her and her overused pink peptobismal coat over here in Rotterdam kissing the asses of the elderly at TOPS diner. See the front page of the Spotlight.
MM--you need to get over yourself. Dems have a great chance of being "king of the mountain" again. Seniors in Albany LOVE Dems. Except for a few senior Reps who have no loyalty, no wisdom and no walk around sense--you haven't got much to offer them. Even senior citizen reps in Rotterdam, got sick of the way you and ST handled things. Even the Reps who go to the "Church of What's Happening Now" left your fold. So sad.
Was that Flip Wilson's church? Nisky is in the toilet because of years of DEM rule. Taxes have exploded and businesses have fled. In the last election, the REP opponent to SS took off mid-campaign for Lake Placid. Nobody noticed. Finally SS will find out what the peeps think of her and her pink coat. Good luck in Glenville with the County Home.
Working together never works. It doesn't in Nisky, the City and it won't here.
Oh Bumble stuff a sock in it. When you were in office you were no better--in fact you and your team mates were WORSE.
Bumble was "in office"??? (Dog Catcher?)
(I don't know anyone on this board by any name other than their screen name.)
