How ironic that on July 18 the “Blue Collar Clowns” entertained children as part of GE Kids’ Day at the Empire State Plaza — while 900-plus IUE/CWA Local 301 blue-collar workers were dealing with their eight-week temporary lack of work from the Schenectady GE site. All of this supposedly because the company is trying to save money with a “plant-wide shutdown.” I’m not sure how they are saving money when the lights are still on and 3,000 salaried employees continue to work. Apparently, the production management team is perfecting their “air” management skills. I’m looking forward to whatever recognition corporate headquarters has in store for the hourly work force later this year. Once again, we are bailing GE out of some very difficult economic times! Kids’ Day had clowns, music, bounce rides, arts and crafts, GE scientists, Monster Jam’s Monster Truck Taz and food! The blue-collar employees had the enjoyment of spending their third weekend home on temporary lack of work. How ironic that GE entertains the community while the hourly workers manage the budget.
CARMEN DEPOALO Schenectady The writer is the business agent for IUE/CWA Local 301.
GE is in the business of making a profit... it's employees are a resource that it uses (or abuses) as it sees fit. To counter it's dismal public image, GE requires that it's management employees ("volunteer")donate their time to the community... (it's not really 'voluntary' when your boss requires your participation.)
GE is NOT an American company... for those that think of it that way should look at it's tax returns... "GE: 7000 tax returns, $0 U.S. tax bill" (but GE's offshore phantom accounts made billions$$$)
When you hear that GE "lost" an order, did you ever wonder who "won" the order??? Often the turbine/generators being built overseas, are being built with GE designs, by a "competitor" who is actually a GE 'business partner'... Schenectady GE 'lost' the order, but Corporate GE and it's partner won.
GE's 'community programs' are very inexpensive "image building"... much cheaper than a TV spot, or Newspaper ad... and there will always be those in the community that look at GE as a benevolent uncle, instead of the Global Opportunist that it is.

I am not a fan of multi-national corporations, especially GE. And having the local democraps so in bed with them that they look like Siamese twins makes me even less so.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
Again Graham paints "local Democrats" as the enemy.
Who defended GE in their PCB pollution fight for years at the expense of all New Yorkers???
Congressman Gerald B Solomon "REPUBLICAN" and GE Stooge!

Good Old George Pataki!!! He never could make up his mind what he wanted to be... Just when the GOP had him all trained... He'd go and hug a tree, and all their work would be lost.
George was not the worst Governor this state has ever had.
