105TH ASSEMBLY DISTRICT GOP primary slated for fall BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Republicans in the state Assembly’s 105th District will choose between two candidates for the party’s nomination. Rotterdam Town Board member Gerard Parisi has collected enough signatures to challenge incumbent George Amedore, who already has endorsements from the Republican committees in Montgomery and Schenectady counties. Both candidates indicated that they wouldn’t challenge each other’s petitions, meaning a primary vote is all but guaranteed in September. Parisi, who collected about 870 signatures across the district, said he’s running on a platform for change in Albany. If elected, he intends to impose a two-term limit on himself while fighting for a law that would subject all legislators to the same standard. “You wouldn’t need things like campaign fi nance reform … because you wouldn’t have politicians striking deals for donations,” he said Tuesday. Parisi also wants to limit the salaries of certain elected offi - cials. Specifically, he wants legislators in Albany to halve their pay, calling them “grossly overpaid” for a job that lasts only six months out of the year. “Six-figure salaries for a parttime job is absurd,” he said. Meanwhile, Amedore is basing his campaign on restoring fiscal restraint to the state budget and reducing the tax burden on property owners. He said his 2007 platform of implementing a property tax cap for school districts and local governments is now being considered by Gov. David Paterson, a Democrat. “I was told back then it would never see the light of day,” he said. “But now my message is resonating.” Amedore said he supports term limits, but not for elected office. Instead, he wants committee and leadership positions in the Legislature to be limited so that long-term lawmakers can’t maintain powerful appointments for years on end. “We need business-minded individuals like myself to get New York back in business,” he said. “We need to get government off our backs.” The primary between Parisi and Amedore was spurred largely by an internal spat between the Rotterdam Republican Committee and leaders from the Schenectady County GOP. Rotterdam Republicans largely supported Parisi, the town’s former party chairman, while the county committee supported Amedore, who was elected to the seat in 2007 and won his first full term the following year. ......................>>>>.................>>>>.......................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01102&AppName=1
Amedore's suggestion to limit appointments without limiting elected officials is just a way to make him even MORE powerful and the people will be at his beck & call--it's a shame

You are kidding right?

You believe in ONLY limiting appointments and not elected positions? Oh...Thank you --your majesty Now, appointments will play musical chairs with trading of hats and the officials will still get optimal control...hmmm...doesn't sound like change to be
Should be an interesting primary night - I won't place any bets on the outcome.

Now you are grasping for staws! Say what you will, but Amedore is one of the finest gentlemen that I know. And although he may not single handedly accomplish all he sets out to (in an almost blue state) he gives it his all and does so with his constituents in mind!
Reps eating their own.....it's soooooooo rotterdam!

Being a fine gentleman does not equate to being a good legislator. Nor does lacking in the quality human being category eliminate one's chances of being a good legislator. No one would have enlisted the late Ted Kennedy to be their designated driver, yet no one (whether you agree with his politics or not) can disagree that he was effective as a legislator.
George Amedore is NOT effective as a legislator and should therefore be replaced by someone who can attempt to be productive, and if that individual is not productive he also should be replaced. It's time to stop reelecting people based on whether we like them as human beings and elect people based on whether they are doing a good job!
I absolutely disagree with you. Character IS a factor...K? Perhaps not to you, but it is to me any many many others. He may not have passed any earth shaking legislation, but being in the minority of an almost completely blue state, he did just fine! He voted NO on many issues that would have effected the taxpayers, which ranked him as one of the most conservative legislatures in NYS!
I, along with many others, support and would vote for Amedore because of the fine gentleman and politician that he is!

Ok, he didn't get anything passed. I can live with that. But...what did he propose!? He ran on the platform to eliminate tolls on the thruway between 25 and 26, did he get it passed? NOPE! Did he even propose the bill? NOPE! That's the problem. He not only didn't get bills passed, he didn't propose anything. Just because he voted the "correct" way on a few bills scored by a group which allegedly speaks for all conservatives, doesn't mean he should be reelected.
Like I said before, George Amedore has done just fine in his first term. As far as proposing MORE legislation/laws/rules/regulations in NYS...aren't there enough? Any legislation that comes out of NYS ends up costing the taxpayers a bundle.
At least Amedore votes NO on legislation that will directly impact the taxpayers! Myself and many others consider that MAJOR! Yet again is why he was ranked one of the most conservative.
As far as proposing MORE legislation...well that is more in line with santabarbara and savage....they are the king and queen of tax and spend and more laws and rules, which ultimately end up costing the taxpayers a bundle.
Nah.....myself and many others will continue to support and vote for George Amedore!!
