Yes Raymond J. Dagostino, Sr., 81, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at home, after a short illness. Born August 28, 1928, in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Nicoletta DiFonso Dagostino. Educated at Mont Pleasant High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Raymond was past president and charter member of the original Rotterdam Republican Club for over 50 years. He served as Committeeman for Rotterdam Republican Club in the 20th Election District for over 45 years. He was a volunteer fireman and assistant chief in the South Schenectady Fire Department District 6. During his tenure as fireman, he also served as a volunteer ambulance driver for the district. He was active as an usher at the former Our Lady of Assumption Church and served as a volunteer for the Church Festas and other community activities. He was also very active in the New York Motor Truck Association representing the Golub Corporation and receiving an "Award for Dedicated Service" as a 30 year volunteer for that organization. Raymond was also a member of the "Million Mile Club" while employed as a driver for the Golub Corporation. He was employed by the Golub Corporation for over 47 years. During that period, he served in many capacities including truck driver, dispatcher, safety supervisor and courier. Members of the community knew Raymond as "Uncle Ray." He was known for his cooking abilities, as his Republican Club clambakes and ziti dinners will be long remembered. Uncle Ray was a man who was loved by the community. He was always concerned about the well being and needs of others and was the first in line to help those in need. Ray was devoted and dedicated to his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. Besides his family and friends, Raymond loved to make homemade wine with his family. He would give his wine to anyone that touched his heart. Raymond was the beloved husband of 54 years to Germaine A. Carlson. They were married on January 21, 1956. Raymond was the father of Raymond J. (Peg) Dagostino of Rotterdam, Rebekah (Dan) Valachovic of Rotterdam and Mark (Cindy) Dagostino of Rotterdam; grandfather of Marlo (John) Paszkiewicz, Casey (Jason) Harr and Jill Valachovic (Dan); great-grandfather of Tianna and Olivia Harris. Also survived by his nephew and best buddy, Robert (Judy) Dagostino; nieces, Donna (Tom) Baum; Elaine (Tom) Middleton, Karen (the late David) Dagostino, his sisters-in-law, Joann and Barbara Carlson; and his brother-in-law, James Anderson; and his beloved dog, Dusty. Many other nieces and nephews also survive. |
