Superintendent Eric Ely didn’t have to wait too long to land a new job. Just one day after Schenectady’s Board of Education reached a severance agreement with the embattled administrator, he was unanimously approved as the new superintendent for a smaller school district, Southbridge Public Schools in central Massachusetts. As I said in the other thread, So, lemme get this straight. We basically gave him $200,000 for nothing. If he had quit to take this job, we would have owed him basically NOTHING ... right?
There was no rush to do any of this. This was orchestrated by Jify Jeffy to give him a gift on the way out the door. The powers that be knew he was getting the Mass job.
This needs to be investigated and revoked. Ms Herman is already calling for him not to take it. They better not give it.

Didn't Ely and HR Director Stricos know in 2005 that Raucci was a potential danger, yet they did nothing (notes from Stricos indicate what a loose cannon Raucci was). Hope Mr. Ely has frequent flyer miles back from Mass. if the DA ever decides to follow the letter of the law.

Excellent point. The question here is IF the DA eill ever decide to follow through. It would be a pleasant surprise if he did! And I still say that there were plenty of others who knew what was going on at that school!
As far as Ely taking his buy out......it should be returned!

SCHENECTADY -- Former Schenectady schools Superintendent Eric Ely's reign as schools chief of a suburban district in Massachusetts will begin Monday.
He recently reached a deal with the Southbridge School District that calls for him to be paid $135,000 per year. Under the terms of his resignation pact, Schenectady would have to pay Ely up to $25,000 if his new job paid under $150,000. School board members did not immediately return a call to confirm the exact payout.
On top of that, Ely will also receive a lump sum payment of $100,000 for getting a new job before Sept. 30.
The deal also prohibits any past or present board members from impugning his professional reputation or performance.
The "resignation" agreement with his former employer includes a stipulation that his reputation not be impugned? In my opinion, there isn't much more damage that could be done to his reputation or performance that he, himself, didn't already inflict.
Might this provision suggest that there is more that the public doesn't know about the Ely administration? How can an agreement with the school district restrict the freedom of speech of past board members? Could this lead to a future lawsuit and claim for damages by Ely if something more comes out about what occurred during his reign?
If the Mass school district knows of this 'agreement' with the schenectedy school district, it would lead one to believe that either............... a. the mass school doesn't know or b. the mass school is desperate or c. the mass school doesn't care
And although this deal prohibits past and present board members for 'speaking'....it doesn't prohibit any other school employee or non-employee from speaking out if they choose.

It’s now official: it will cost the Schenectady taxpayers precisely $144,500 to say goodbye to former schools Superintendent Eric Ely. Ely is taking a new job Monday as superintendent in Southbridge, Mass. Offi cials there announced that his new salary is $135,000 — which triggers a one-time, $15,000 payment from Schenectady. But because he’s taking the job Monday, rather than waiting until the start of the school year, Schenectady won’t have to pay his salary for the month of August. The savings: $14,500. The school district will also be able to stop paying Ely’s health insurance premiums. The Schenectady school board agreed to offer Ely a lucrative severance package last month in exchange for his immediate resignation. He agreed — and took a job at Southbridge the next day. If he had remained unemployed for an entire year, the severance package would have cost the district about $214,000. But those rules proved to be unnecessary when Ely was offered a job the very next day. Board member Diane Herrmann called for Ely to revoke the deal, given his quick employment, and thus save the taxpayers money. He chose not to, according to district offi cials.
Of course not, why would he - he knew he had it golden, he also knew the deal was going to happen.
