So, what you're saying is that you want to have a county government that is pretty much run by the people that live in the city, right?
Well, the city of Schenectady already has a 40% rule on the County Legislature, and they are all in the majority (which currently runs at 86 2/3%) and they almost always vote as a solid block (unless someone's up for election and has to say that they voted against something (see the last special election that was held over in District 3)).
Actually, I am NOT saying that .. because we should have the reps elected from districts around the county. Actually, the city does not really control the County Legislature .. while County Dems follow the rule "working together works" .. there remains a HEALTHY dose of debate and wrangling among the Democrats who make up the County Board. |

I happened to go by the capital plaza rubble today. I had concerns of it's content. The building is obviously pre-1978, so can everyone assume that there is no asbestos or lead in that rubble? Were there air quality tests done? |

Come on, Bumble. Who cares about that? I mean really, we have the Metroplex coming to save us. Who wants to worry what they might be doing to the land at the site and the neighbors of the site? This is tax money coming to save us! I mean, if I knew that all we needed to do was elect a bunch of Democrats to the town board to get multiple businesses ousted to get new bars, we would have done this so much sooner, right??? |

It appeared that BBL had asbestos abatement done prior to demoliton they had a special entry point off Curry Rd by the old tailor shop. Lead paint remediation, I doubt it. On Saturday when I drove by they had a feeble attempt to contain the dust by spraying the building down with a garden hose. |

Remediating the so called lead dust is not required since this is not residential location. I understand it that way, from past experience. Asbestos is differnt and needs to be remove beforehand. |

I was just there - looks like 99% of it is now down and it's just the cleanup remaining. I'm guessing all the concrete rubble will be used to level the front of the parking lot? Anyone know if they're putting a bigger storm sewer system in there? |

not sure about the storm sewers -- seems like it would make sense to do it |

Ground Round was good .. Chucky Cheese was not so good. Frankly, I still miss the old Red Barn on upper State St |

Long time ago -- I was probably about 10 -- they were the first "fast food place" in the area to sell hamburgers, chicken, and fish -- "when the hungries hit .. hit the Red Barn" BTW - the Red Barn restaurant still exists as the Farm Family Restaurant with 1 location in Bradford, PA and the other in Racine, WI. Maybe we should start a petition drive to get one in Rotterdam. |

The Red Barn restaurant was on upper State St about a block from the KFC -- you can still see the building (literally a red barn). The Red Barn chain was one of several fast food chains in the 1960's -- Carrol's - which became Burger King (Schenectady's Carrol's stood where the locomotive is on display on Nott Terrace just below the Schenectady Museum), McDonald's, and Jack-in-the-Box (Schenectady's Jack-in-the-Box stood where the Burger King on Erie Blvd now stands) |
