New Latham grocery schedules job fair

The Fresh Market, the new high-end grocery store planned for Route 9 in Latham, has scheduled a job fair as it works toward a fall opening.

The grocery chain says it needs to hire about 100 workers for the store, and hopes to find at least some of those workers at the job fair planned for July 13 at the Century House in Latham.

The store is now under construction, and is part of a overall transformation of what had been a half-abandoned shopping plaza at the intersection of routes 9 and 155. The plaza is being renamed Fresh Market Commons.

The Fresh Market is family-owned chain based in Greensboro, N.C. The company’s stores are similar to, although smaller than, Whole Foods stores, with an emphasis on prepared and gourmet foods.

Fresh Market stores typically have a butcher, fish market, cheese store and more, bringing “the atmosphere of an Old World European market, all under one roof,” according to the company’s Web site.

The company says the job fair will include on-the-spot interviews, and it is asking interested applicants to pre-apply at the career section of its website.
