PARKER — Parents in Colorado's third-largest school district are being asked to pay if their kids want to ride the bus to school.
The Douglas County school board voted 5-0 Tuesday night to approve a 50-cent-per-ride transportation fee starting next school year. The decision will affect about 17,000 students who ride the bus this year. The district hopes to raise $2 million with the program.
The buses will have Zonar GPS units to track student ridership. Students will have a card or a ZPass that will track their use of the bus.
remove it from the taxes and give them an "I-ride" card....that will end up being subsidized to even the playing field.......6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other.......just how poor can I get to get what I want? or just how rich can I get to get a hold of that loop-hole to get what I want?

Sure, good idea. Really, it's the parents who pay. But think of this. The parents CHOSE to live enough away from the school. Adults with children have the choice to live within a few blocks of the school, but they chose not to do so. Why should the rest of the taxpayers pay for the personal choices of the parents?
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

That's like saying....'why should I pay for special needs kids when my kid doesn't need that service'. OR....'why should I pay for a football or basketball program or a music program when my kid doesn't participate'.

With all due respect, what an ignorant and arrogant statement. Think about this, when you buy a house, you only get to choose from what is available. And sorry, if I had to choose between a house 100 yards from a school that was too small, had many issues to be addressed, and a house 5 miles from a school that had sufficient room, only a few issues, why should I choose the one that does not "fit" simply because I have school age children?
