Eunice Esposito has resigned from her position as Town Clerk for Rotterdam, effective July 31, after residents had publicly questioned her absence from Town Hall.

Rotterdam Supervisor Frank Del Gallo received a resignation letter on Sunday, July 17, from the woman that was a staple at Town Hall since the 1970’s. The controversy started to bubble over when Esposito left on Medical leave in April 2010 while still collecting her salary with no clear answers given by officials on when or if she would return. Del Gallo sent the resignation letter to The Spotlight on Wednesday, July 20.

At the Town Board Meeting on July 13, Deputy Supervisor Robert Godlewski said he received “numerous” phone calls inquiring about the status the town clerk and asked Del Gallo if there were any updates on the situation and if she would be returning. Del Gallo said he had talked to her son, Mickey, who then talked to Esposito. While he recently wasn’t talking to Esposito personally, Mickey would then talk to Del Gallo on her behalf.

Del Gallo said Mickey told him Esposito had decided to resign, so Del Gallo requested she send him a formal resignation letter. Her term was for four years and would have ended at the close 2013.

“I feel bad that she had to resign, it is just the way politics are,” said Del Gallo. “As far as I am cornered she is the nicest lady I have ever meet.”

Del Gallo said he doesn’t have any intention to appoint someone to the position, because he hopes someone will run for the position in the current election.

“I think we should wait … whoever wants to do that job is going to run for it now,” said Del Gallo. “At this late in the game, I don’t think we should replace that job right now.”

In Esposito’s letter, she blames politics for her resignation, which she claims to have also caused her health problems that took her out of Town Hall.

Esposito wrote in the letter: “Due to these unproven accusations, I do not feel as though I can continue to perform my duties as effectively as I have in the forty plus years that I have served the people and the Town of Rotterdam. The culmination of everthing that has happened in the recent past has literally affected my health to the point that my Doctor's collectively have determined and highly recommend that I tender my resignation before I do further irreparable physical damage to myself.”...........................>>>>......................>>>>......................http://www.spotlightnews.com/news/view_news.php?news_id=1311221108

What is the "culmination of everything that has happened in the recent past"?

There's seems to be an epidemic in this country of people not taking responsibility for their actions.  You have a woman who has been involved in politics for 40 years, and now it's bad for her health when questioned about her illegal notarizing.  It was illegal, not political.  Someone needs to ask her - was covering up and hiding Jimmy Constantino's perversions bad for her health?  Or was it only bad for the psychological health of the young girls he touched?

More shamelessness by Rotterdam Democrats.  Using Eunice one last time to take some departing shots at the Republicans, while moving her aside in hopes of not having her come up as a campaign issue.

"continue to perform"   ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

It's been WELL OVER a year since performing ANY duties.

But you see, the squeaky wheels have gotten the grease.    The squeaky wheels will continue and the socialism in the city will be eliminated too.

Eunice had a long and good career.  She should have given it all up when she was ahead, and should have sold her home up here when when she was healthy and houses were selling and then move to FL for a well deserved retirement

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Don't be fooled here rotterdamians. If this wasn't an election year, Eunie would still be a no show town clerk who would still be collecting her taxpaid salary!!! It was her political party, DEMOCRATS, that have allowed and encouraged her to continue this scam and would have allowed her to continue EXCEPT it is becoming a major campaign issue!

She was basically 'forced' to resign!! And although this appears to be a final ending to a scam....the truth of the matter is.....she would have been allowed to receive her salary until her term was up....IF....this weren't an election year!

The donut shop is buzzin'....Even after this attempt at a strategic political move by the dem party.......Rotterdam folks have already figured it out!!

What does "perform my duties as effectively" mean?  Does "as effectively" mean handing out handicap parking tags without doctors notes and notarize documents when people are not present - or dead, in return for democrat votes?

No silly........what is pathetic is that the dems allowed EE to collect taxpayer's money for a no show, fraudulent town clerk position. The democons even supported her fraudulent behavior. But it's an election year....soooo...... EE got snookered by her own party. She was 'forced' to resign since rotterdamians are fed up with the democon scams!!

Most rotterdamians could care less if it's a dem or rep or alien from another planet as long as they do their job......legally!!!! EE is and will be a black eye for the dems for some time. Just another shameful notch in their belt!!

Except that she would have been an anchor during the campaign.  She wasn't legally forced to resign; she was pressured by the party to resign.  The Democrats are running against themselves and their last slate of candidates.  They have a lot of backtracking, spinning, and explaining to do, in order to sell that pile of sh*t ticket they're running.

Mrs. Esposito served the town well for many years -- her ever present smile and professionalism were the hallmarks of her tenure in office.

I wish her well in her retirement.

No,  I am saddened to see her leave public office.  Eunice Esposito is one of the few truly good people that I have met in politics.   I wish that she had the health to remain in office until she was 100 years old - if she and the voters wanted it.

She leaves big shoes to be filled  --- and now the town can start thinking about who is best suited to serve in that fine office.

The truth of the matter is that the dems would have encouraged EE to continue collecting her tax paid salary until her term was up. Hell, the dems have been encouraging her to do this for over one year. However, she became one of many elephants in the election room, so she was then encouraged to resign. And ironically....right at the height of a campaign blitz!

Rotterdamians can see right through this set up!! This isn't about EE anymore......it is about how shallow and desperate the rotterdam dem party is!
