That is politics in a nutshell. Providing the services people want without taxing them for the services they want.
I wasn't referring to 'services they want'. I was referring to political campaigns boasting lower taxes, cut spending and smallergovenment. Yet year after year, decade after decade....the taxpayers get just the opposite.
And don't get me wrong, some tax paid services and employees are obviously needed, but there are MANY that are not!

I'm sure all those (well most) intend to lower taxes or do as they promise. However, once in power you find a lot of information that was not readily available to you when on the campaign. Programs that you intend to cut have good uses that are helpful to the people that pay for them, or that contracts stop you from being able to end certain arrangements. I'm by no means defending them all, because yes politicians will help those that helped them get into power.
But all in all, you need to cut programs (and that usually means jobs since payroll is a large expense in anything you do) to cut taxes. And a lot of people like their government programs. Hell if we cut Medicare out completely maybe we could save Social Security and do away with a lot of taxes...but what politician would get elected running that platform?

I wasn't referring to such a LARGE cut such as medicare or social security. Although I would like to see a different system than what is in place today. Did you know that if a man married 3 women, in his lifetime, and divorced them all, and was married to each one for at least 10 year....they are ALL entitled to his social security? Yup they are!!
I also read in the paper the other day that there are MILLIONS of dollars paid out under the umbrella of medicare that shouldn't have been. So for both medicare and social security....I'd certainly like to see them re-structured.
However, I was referring to subtle changes such as NYS employees paying tax on their pensions. Also I'm sure there are plenty of patronage jobs, at all levels of government, in the entire country that we could do without. Locally....and not to bring it up under EE's drama thread, people seeking tax payer's money for existing businesses for facade grants through the IDA! I don't support taxpayer monies supporting private businesses PERIOD! Also I don't support high ranking federal employees using a government jet to transport them and their families on vacations.
And on an EE note....I don't support double dipping. It should not be allowed! In the private sector, if you retire, you can not come back to the some companies for at least 1 year....if at all!
Well that's my opinion!

Keep in mind though ... all the money paid into Social Security since her retirement (a LOT) goes into the SS coffers and does NOT benefit EE at all (or anyone else who continues to work after age 70). Personally I don't support politicians/congressmen getting full retirement after one term ... these are laws we have and can't change (today) ... but why would anyone not get the most of what they have worked all their life for ... whatever is their entitlement, they should get. That's my opinion. Every one of us wants what we have earned and what benefits we get. Anything else would be stupid.
As far as EE goes......she served, she WAS influential(gumba), she was nice, she did a job,,,,,,did she do wrong according to the law?--apparently....... we try to use the law to 'not offend' our neighbors......the fact remains, this town kept her in that position for the SAME reasons this town is in the mess it is in today......
dont tell on me, do it for me and I'll do it for you, I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine, I wont tell if you dont tell, I hope there's no charge, I dont want to pay that, isn't it cheaper or free....blah blah blah..
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
But that is rotterdam's slimey politics. And it doesn't matter what party is in the majority. They all have a set of attorney's that think their decisions are the end all. When in most cases, they are just as slimey. IMHO

As it has been presented, EE did one thing wrong and you all here want to crucify her. It's not like we saw her on an aircraft carrier saying Mission Acomplished!

She was CAUGHT doing something wrong, however she has done many things wrong but people covered her a$$ and still are covering for her. It is really a shame, had she done everything by the book, she really could have gone out with a bang. She will be going out with Zero honesty and Zero integrity.

According to you, but she is widely loved around town. But those people are crying...
