Democrats in Arizona are FURIOUS and getting FURIOUSER by the minute. And I have it on good authority.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Arizona gov. signs immigration law
By: Kasie Hunt
April 23, 2010 05:22 PM EDT

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has signed one of the toughest immigration laws in the country, requiring police to stop anyone suspected of being an illegal immigrant.

“Today with my unwavering signature on this legislation, Arizona strengthens our security within our borders,” Brewer said at a press conference in Arizona. She said her signature represents “fast support for enforcing the law both against illegal immigration and against racial profiling.”

The law requires police to stop anyone on “reasonable suspicion” of being an undocumented immigrant. People could be arrested for failing to produce a valid driver’s license or papers proving they are a legal resident.

The bill has reignited a national conversation about comprehensive immigration reform. President Barack Obama called the measure “misguided” on Friday and said his administration will “closely monitor the situation and examine the civil rights and other implications of this legislation.”

Arizona Sen. John McCain has praised the measure, calling it a “step forward” — a dramatic switch from the 2008 presidential primary, when he risked his political career to support comprehensive immigration reform.

Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) immediately called on the president to instruct federal agencies not to cooperate with the new law. “This is a discriminatory policy that cannot be enforced without committing grave breaches of due process and equal protection. The law will not withstand legal scrutiny, and I call on the president immediately to reject it in the strongest possible terms,” he said in a statement. Checking someone’s immigration status requires cooperation from Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

“As a city, New York may well benefit from another state undermining its own international competitiveness – we’re happy to have those businesses and tourists come here,” New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said after the bill was signed. “But as a country, America will be badly hurt if more states follow Arizona’s lead.” ..............>>>>................>>>>............http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0410/36283.html

Gee...Why do you say brown people?  Do you assume that all illegals are "brown people"?  Pretty stereotypical of you, it  really shows your prejudice.

LOL Cicero don't turn your bigotry in another post on to me because I called you on it.  Mexicans in general are darker then the white America most police officers belong to, so yes, any brown people will be stopped.

As the late George Carlin put it, America is always at war with brown people.

I'm not sure you are familiar with the west coast, but, there is also a problem with illegals brought in from Asian countries.  Again more stereotyping, assuming ALL illegals are Mexican.  But, what can I expect from somebody that uses the words of cynical dead comedian to develop their worldly view.

At least AZ is doing something about these illegals that the past and present administration has failed to do. Kudos to them!

Yeah and it's a whole 5 hour drive between Phoenix and Los Angeles.  Not even close.

I agree Bumble but some of the wording of the law seems iffy.  How long till there is some kind of police beating someone because they couldn't produce papers proving their citizenship.

What my fear (and it appears the Democrats fear this too) is that I know I can't produce proof of citizenship on the fly (a license is not proof remember) so what if I wasn't Caucasian? While most police officers are fine upstanding people, we know all to well in recent history that power can and is abused.

I guess I wonder how AZ defines 'reasonable suspicion?  Unlike what Cicero seems to think, I understand that AZ's immigrant issue is primarily with people of Mexican decent...so will speaking Spanish give them reasonable suspicion?   Isn't there a better way to word the law?

The law in theory is something I'm fine with, in practice however I'm not.  I'm glad someone is stepping forward to create a law to stop doing something, but however I agree with President Obama in finding it 'misguided'.

It shouldn't matter if you are white, brown, green or purple if you are doing something that the police officer deems suspicious he has the right to ask you for your proof of ID that will show whether or not you're a citizen. If only the brown race are challenged then there might be a problem with how the law is being administered.

"America would be nothing without the migrant workers" is how one La Raza protester put it. If they are so great then why is their country so fu@ked up? Maybe they ought go back and use their immense talents and contributions to their own nation and fix it, I think we can take the chance that our world may fall apart without them here. Otherwise I say to ALL immigrants of any stripe, creed or color- come here legally in the light of day and abide by our laws and be welcomed towards a path of American citizenship. And I write this from Arizona, having had a leg in that state for 20 years myself.
