A new ranking by the Daily Beast says Albany — yes, our little Albany — is one of the nation’s forty “most-stoned cities.” And this is apparently a very stoned region, as Ithaca, Binghamton, Syracuse, Springfield, Burlington, and Buffalo all made the list, too.
The ranking was based on the percentage of the population that smokes marijuana, arrest data, local “pot culture,” and more.
Albany ranked, um, high on percentage of the population that smokes pot, at 9.9 percent. (Really? Can that possibly be true?) But it scored low on pot culture, which attempts to measure a city’s marijuana friendliness.
It’s probably no surprise that college towns dominate the ranking, which, not coincidentally, was released on April 20. The Albany info is here, as is a cool picture of Empire State Plaza.
