A few days ago a woman driving a car randomly pulled into my driveway all determined to tell me about this company going around giving away "Free roofs".. didnt give a company name claimed she herself wasnt selling anything but said she just got it done and they did a good job... and that The insurance agencies pay for it...
today a Gentleman from "Focus Construction" stopped by with literature and the same claim....
It's a scam on the insurance companies - get them to pay for hail damage last year .. or heavy snow damage. Supposedly, many residents are making these claims because the hail knocked pieces of asphalt shingles (those tiny stones) off the shingles causing "damage" and affecting the life expectancy of the shingle. We're talking 5 pieces of stone missing from a shingle, out of thousands on a normal shingle - but they're saying "it's damaged and it affected the life expectancy".
Totally bogus, but the insurance companies DID pay - with money from the feds because of that big hail storm last year. They write up the paperwork "documenting" the damage and the insurance companies are/were writing checks on the spot.
I know two people that took "advantage" of this - right or wrong. I'd never do it, but hey, other people don't necessarily have morals and will take any $ they can get. What they don't realize is that they're giving the money out of one pocked (via taxes) to the feds, then the fed is putting $ back in the other pocket via the insurance companies, then our rates go up anyway because of petty claims. Hail, rain, snow - it's natural, I would never ask an insurance company to pay for this extremely minimal "damage".
It's not limited to Focus - or any insurance company or roofing company.
Stay FAR AWAY from Focus. And to think he tries to come off as he turned his life around. The owner of Focus is none other than Jeffrey Civitello, who, in about 1995 or so, went to federal prison for laundering a half million dollars of drug money through his business.
Just search for his name in the archives of the Times Union and the Gazette. His name, also try entering as Jeff Civitello.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
