There was an article in today's paper about the Mohon budget, got me thinking...anyone hear anything about who plans on running for school board?
The only candidate I am aware of is, get this: Mike Godlewski, the Assistant Town "Attorney". It is my understanding that he was lured into the race and is being promoted by Joe Salamone, a current member of the Mohonasen School Board. Another current Board member recently asked me if I knew anyone interested in running, as so far, Godlewski is uncontested. Any takers????
What does the school board do...besides the obvious? Any required qualifications (seems like most of the political offices in town are held by lawyers is why I ask)?

About the only qualification that I know of is that you have to be 18 yrs. of age by the day of the election and live in the school district.
And actually, most of the elected political positions in the town are not held by lawyers...Parisi is the only exception right now, and Mertz was the only exception in the last administration. When you consider some of those who have been elected around here, I think it's safe to assume that requirements for other elected positions are probably limited to age and residency as well.
Salamone tried to lure me, but I said no thanks not interested. Imagine an environmentalist on the school board! I said I would volunteer with the voting machines for the budget vote again this year at my alma mater, Mohonasen, but next year I would be in the Schalmont School District getting hit with homestead and non-homestead tax rates.
TBV, trick me?? Absolutely not! He was highly complimentary and thought I would be a good board member. I was quite flattered, but still not interested.
I believe the MHS school board members are looking for people that are interested in their community and want members that offer a background on multiple topics. I'm an environmentalist but I'm also very concerned on the rising costs on the taxpayer. I want a good education for our children. Afterall, they are an investment in our future. But, we have to hold the line on spending everywhere . Gosh, that sounds like I'm campaigning which I'm not. I have been that route in November and wasn't the voters choice.
And the biggest reason is that I'm moving and will no longer be paying taxes to two school districts and wouldn't qualify to be on the board.
Too funny, Tippy! Yeah let's go back to chalk dust and mimographs!
