Of course she can.
First of all, I don't see how there's any conflict between a school district that is NOT in Rotterdam and the town itself. Secondly, I can't think of any circumstance where she would be able to exert authority as a board member in a decision that would some how have an impact on Rotterdam or vice versa.
In Raucci's case, as I understand it, he was both boss and union leader, which is an obvious conflict. DiLeva doesn't really have any authority over anyone other than her students, which aren't even from Rotterdam. Even in the unlikely event that a student IS from Rotterdam and she exerts some sort of influence over him/her(like a suspension or something), her decision making power can be over-ruled by the super...and if not the super, the school board, who the super answers to.
If she is somehow in conflict, then Mike Dellavilla was in uber-conflct when he served on both school and town board. But even there, as a single vote, he didn't really have any decision making power and could simply recuse himself if ever there was a conflict. |
