Will state woes halt Exit 6 work?

Starting today, the state does not have the money to pay the contractor building the new bridge at Exit 6.

Mark Galasso, president of Lancaster Development Inc., said he may have no choice but to shut down the work if he can’t pay his employees. He and his subcontractors have agreed they will erect the steel for the first half of the bridge over the next two weeks. After that, work may cease.

“We’re not going to stop right now but we are going to monitor it,” he said. “By April 10, we should know their intentions. If there is no agreement, we will have no choice but to shut down. It’s a week by week decision.”

Galasso is furious and said the governor and state legislative leaders should be fired for not doing their jobs. He has other state projects elsewhere in the state that were scheduled to begin Monday, he said, but he won’t start that work. Instead, he said, his employees will be at home, collecting unemployment.
