I think rationally we need a REAL foundation......not just 'feel good' stuff......there is a saying (for a reason) of "starving artist".....and there is also a saying "no more straw for the bricks and double the number of bricks".......
soooo.....what do we do first?.....although downtown looks nice in a VERY VERY VERY small area.....the rest of the county(hamburg street for one) gets the shaft.....and stupid things like baseball parks get 'bought'(voted for) first......
what do we teach our children? That in Schenectaday the only jobs available are either 1.standing in line at DSS or 2.patronage/entitlement/vote getting jobs????
as for building a 'tax base'....I think the unions have usurped that position.......a tax base HAS to start with education and innovation and the 'not so nice' things such as sewers/sidewalks etc....but, in NYS not just Schenectady the vortex keeps sucking it all away to entitlements/vote buying/contract dealings/guaranteed pensions etc etc.,,,,,,,,,
two economies you say?----you betcha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the LUCKY government workers and THE REST OF US DUMB LUCKERS.....
leadership comes from the top----fortitude is built from the bottom up..........who wants a 'lucky' foundation? |
