Proctors has been a huge help to Downtown .. but it can't be the sole savior.
If you look around the country at cities that have revived their downtowns or other run down business districts ... the most essential element to revival is a good mix of retail, commercial offices, and middle and upper income RESIDENTIAL.
If you just build offices -- the business district will be ok 9-5 .. and then have problems at night. You can't support retail with just a 9-5 crowd of people. You can't support retail with just a beautiful theater that runs Broadway class performances. You need to get people living back downtown or in the business district.
As for the people puking and relieving themselves dowtown .. I would also site the people who are panhandling the moment you stop for a red light or try to get out of your car to go to the few stores downtown. It is a problem and needs to be addressed. |
