From Marv Cermak {TU} 3/2/10-CLOSING DOORS-

One of Rotterdam's Friendly's is adjacent to a Wal-Mart and Hannaford Plaza, a long time popular shopping complex experiencing a growing number of vacancies. Most recently, a Payless shoe store folded. Also at HP 2 former women's apparel shops, a dental office and a billard palor remain vacant. A long standing CVS pharmacy is leaving at the end of July for a new location about a half mile away.

It's an extremely busy shopping area making Marv wonder if the lack of new tenants is tied to the wobbly economics.
----------------------
Gee, wonder why County sales tax receipts are tanking? Wasn't Metrograft suppose to INCREASE sales tax revenues? Ray keeps talkin bout "renaissance".

I think he is only talking about those 2 blocks of state street where the tax sucking proctors that can't sustain itself is located. Most business owners (bar restaurant) said that the only time they do good is if proctors has a mega show like wicked. Other than that.....they can barely stay afloat.

So it is us, the taxpayers, that allow proctors to remain in existance, so that 'we' can filter monies to the businesses. NOT CUSTOMERS!

It is clearly just our recycled tax money that goes around and around and around!

The death rattle began with the leaving of Scarborough's ... Walmart has threatened to pull out if they can't build a super center, Hanaford, which I much prefer over PriceChopper, never has the crowds of PC ... only the second hand store there has any real business outside of Walmart.  I'm not even sure how the Hallmark is surviving with the license fees and costs of the "Hallmark" brand.

The economy in general is in the crapper! No business is doing as well as expected. However, schenectady county could barely sustain itself when times were good.

Good points BT-and speaking of recycled tax money-what is going on {if anything} at the former Big Hose-that was suppose to be an "economic engine for renaissance". Another FBI investigation is needed. No renaissance on Jay St where 30% of the stores are empty and many just hanging on.

One million taxpayer dollars later ....is the Beauty school ever going to open? What's the latest Metrograft fax on this?-lol-

Paul mitchell is working on their project. I hear they expect to open for business in May. As a side note.....all of the work was done by a company from the state of Florida.
