GL is absolutely correct. He didn't appoint himself. He had the backing of the TB and the town committee.

ROTTERDAM GOP names pick for board Parisi to fill vacant position BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Rotterdam’s Republican Committee has chosen Gerard Parisi as their candidate to replace Michael Della Villa on the Town Board after his resignation earlier this month. Parisi, the soon-to-be former town attorney, will resign his seat as chairman of the committee pending his appointment to the board. Members of the board are expected to take up the appointment during a special meeting Wednesday evening. In a letter announcing the choice to the all-Republican Town Board, acting Chairman Attilio Tebano said the committee was unanimous in its decision. He said the committee “overwhelmingly” viewed Parisi as the most qualified among several of the individuals interviewed for the position and urged the board to approve the appointment. “Mr. Parisi has served the town for the last four plus years and is extremely familiar with almost all aspects of town operations. Furthermore, he is committed to the core Republican principles of reducing taxes and government,” Tebano wrote. If the appointment is ratified by the remaining four board members, Tebano will become the permanent chairman of the committee, according to his letter. Parisi’s law firm is also expected to terminate its service as the privately contracted town attorney Wednesday, just two hours before the special meeting. Della Villa resigned from his board seat this month citing work obligations that frequently require him to travel out of state. He left the seat with two years remaining on his term. Any replacement will serve through 2010, but be required to run for the last year on Della Villa’s term. The full four-year term will be up for election in November 2011. Parisi has been at odds with supervisor-elect Frank Del Gallo, a Democrat, since the 2009 campaign, when he openly questioned the candidate’s ability to serve. His statements prompted Del Gallo and all other candidates appearing on the Democratic ticket to boycott any public forums with the Republicans. Del Gallo, a conservative, said there are no hard feelings between him and Parisi. He welcomed the GOP’s choice and said he’s eager to get down to business with the incoming board, which will is now assured to have five new members. “I don’t have a problem with him,” he said Monday. “I’m just excited to getting going.” Likewise, board member-elect Robert Godlewski said he didn’t have any issue with the appointment. He wished the outgoing administration would have allowed the new board to make the appointment and suggested they would have chosen Brian McGarry, the No New Tax Party candidate for supervisor in November, as Della Villa’s replacement. “But we have to move forward,” he said. “We know what we have to do and it’s not going to be easy.” Parisi did not return a call for comment Monday. At least one sitting board member isn’t thrilled by the Republican’s choice. John Mertz said choosing Parisi for the seat is “comical” and further evidence of the party’s disconnect with voters. “He’s a bridge burner,” he said of Parisi. “He’s clearly not a bridge builder.” Parisi abruptly announced the committee wouldn’t endorse Mertz for re-election in September 2008, more than a year before the election. The committee eventually selected county Legislator Joe Suhrada in his place, leaving Mertz to run on the No New Tax Party ticket; neither candidate was elected. “[Parisi] singlehandedly cost the Republicans the election,” Mertz said, indicating he would vote against the appointment. “There’s no question about that.”

Did anyone attend the Lincoln Day dinner in March? Can anyone report on the attendance, both the numbers and the identities? Any interesting developments?
Did the NNTP guys attend? Did Parisi and Amedore exchange words or visual daggers?
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
Parisi would have a much better chance at winning an election right in rotterdam. Amedore has a ton of support and not just locally. Running for a state seat and a local seat is like mixing apples and oranges. I wouldn't look at AS as a strong contender either. IMHO

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Members of the Rotterdam Republican Committee are discussing a possible primary challenge to state Assemblyman George Amedore, some saying that he didn’t help the party during a tough election season last fall. Petitions have circulated among town committee members recently calling for the party to conduct a special meeting regarding Amedore’s endorsement. Some committee members who signed the petition are suggesting former committee Chairman Gerard Parisi as possibly better suited for the state Legislature’s 105th Assembly District. “It’s time for some new faces in Albany,” said Mary Barrie, a committee member who made an unsuccessful run for a seat on the Schenectady County Legislature in November. “You have someone who’s willing to run, so let’s give him a try.” Several committee members who signed the petition said they remain rankled by what they perceive as Amedore’s lack of support during heated county and town contests in November. Rotterdam Republicans were beaten in every contested race, leading to a clean sweep of the GOPcontrolled Town Board and the loss of one seat on the county Legislature. Rotterdam committee member Frank Salamone said he signed the petition to determine what options are available for the seat, not as a call to oust Amedore. He said the incumbent hasn’t been as vocal on certain issues as some committee members expected and didn’t come to the local party’s aid in its time of need. “George upset a lot of people,” he said. “He hasn’t really been doing anything for us.” Like Barrie, Salamone said he would support a run by Parisi, who is serving out the year as an appointed Town Board member, the sole Republican on the board. But Salamone reiterated that the drive for a committee meeting was more focused on discussing potential candidates. “We’re not saying this is done,” he said. “We’re saying we want to investigate whether there is a better candidate.” Town Committee Chairman James Longo did not return a call for comment. It is unclear whether there are enough signatures yet to spur a special meeting of the committee. Contacted Wednesday, Parisi admitted that he’s interested in a run for the Assembly, something that has been on his mind since party leaders initially approached him about the seat four years ago. If he does run for the seat, he said he would stump for term limits as a major campaign promise. Parisi did not rule out a direct challege to Amedore, but a run for the Assembly might not entail one. He said there’s a chance Amedore could run against U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam, whose seat is up for grabs in November, or for state Sen. Hugh Farley’s spot if the veteran legislator decides to retire. “It may be an available seat,” he said of the 105th District. Amedore said he plans to run for another term in office, even though he hasn’t announced his intentions yet. He said his focus now is on the state budget process, not the intricacies of seeking another term. “There will be a time to campaign, but right now is not it,” he said. Amedore disputed the notion that he didn’t help the Rotterdam Republicans at all during their 2009 campaign. He said he wasn’t deeply involved because he was never asked for help by the local chairmen. “Never once did I receive any phone call from anyone,” he said. Amedore’s endorsement will be subject to a decision by the party committees in both Montgomery and Schenectady counties. The Rotterdam Republicans are a sizeable faction of the Schenectady County party, which includes members from all of the committees in the outlying towns and the city. Tom Buchanan, chairman of the Schenectady County Republican Committee, said a decision about Amedore’s endorsement will come before petitions are disseminated in June. Though aware of the petition drive in Rotterdam, he said there’s been no other indication that the county party wouldn’t endorse the incumbent. “The town of Rotterdam can do what it wants,” he said. “But at the end of the day, the vote is held at the county level.” Montgomery County’s Republican Committee isn’t expected to back away from Amedore either. Party Chairman Joseph Emanuele III said the county committee is pleased with the assemblyman’s performance and strongly supports his bid for reelection. “Montgomery County has strongly supported George and his commitment to the 105th,” he said.

I understand that he was working on his uncle's (Mike Viscusi) campaign for county legislature. I don't know if he campaigned for any of the other candidates on the Republican ballot line.
