ROTTERDAM
Plan would add 248 units
Proposal would move ball fields
BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

Plans are afoot to relocate several baseball diamonds and develop land around the former Rotterdam Republican Club off North Thompson Street for residential and retail uses.
Timothy Larned and Maria Esposito, the owners of the property, recently submitted plans to the town that include building 248 units of apartments on about 78 acres of land now zoned for heavy industrial uses. The existing ball fields used by the Rotterdam Little League would be moved to a permanent location on about nine acres abutting an area informally known as Murken’s pit.
The project was listed on the Town Board’s agenda for Wednesday’s meeting. Board members are expected to forward a proposal for a zone change and planned residential development to the town’s Planning Commission for a recommendation.
Deputy Supervisor Robert Godlewski said part of the appeal of the project is that it would finally allay concerns over the future of the fields. For years, league officials have fretted that the fields could fall prey to development pressures.
“It’s a very exciting project” he said Monday. “It will solve a problem that has plagued the Little League for years.”
In addition to the apartments, the project proposes to build 20,000 square feet of commercial space along North Thompson Street. The project also would realign North Thompson Street to an area further south, a move that would help create a T-shaped intersection with Burdeck Street and improve the safety of the junction.
“There are a lot of positives,” Godlewski said.
The fields would include three normal-size diamonds and one smaller one. An access road would be constructed off West Campbell Road and require an easement from the town. ...........>>>>...............>>>>...................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00702&AppName=1

Yeah,,,248 units and a strip mall less than 2 miles from the January water main break on Princetown Road.  This is Rotterdam, First we make Timmy L money by letting him develop, THEN we will concern ourselves with the added stress it will put on our already aged infrastructure.

Ya don't think Timmy L "contributed" 1000's of dollars to FDG's campaign without expecting something in return did ya?  And it only took 2 months into the new administration before they started kowtowing to the same developers who made Rotterdam such "A Nice Place to Live".

No, I'm not on the outside looking in.  It's MY government, NOT those who sit on the board.  Those who serve on the board, do so at the pleasure of the residents.  I'm not a member of either party.  I just call'em as I see'em.  I've lived in Rotterdam long enough to see what mess these developers created.

Unfortunately for you Peeper, this isn't a US versus THEM issue for me.  It's Rotterdam continuing the practice of ad hoc development it practiced in the 80's and 90's.  I would call it poor planning, but I actually think it's no planning at all.  It's more about giving away the town to the highest bidder.(Or largest contributor to the Party)

FDG and this administration will be stripped naked soon enough, and seen for what and WHO they REALLY represent.

STAY TUNED!

The agenda posted on the Town's website doesn't list this item regarding Larned's new project.  Another last minute change...when will this one be posted for the public?  Pretty slick!

Check the "Revitalize Rotterdam" (Dem) campaign donations for the people associated with the agenda items:
BTL Properties $750
Larned & Sons $1,500
Tim Larned $1,500

Not to mention the unitemized donations.

I predict prompt Rotterdam IDA approval and Metroplex funding for the commercial development.

It is interesting that these projects continue to be proposed in an environment in which there is an
abundance of residential housing available for purchase and many vacant storefronts in the
Rotterdam Square Mall and other strip malls (Curry Road Shopping Center, Point Plaza, Grand Union
on Hamburg Street, etc.). There is seemingly a lack of demand for commercial space, yet the
developers continue to build

I believe it is OUR government.  MY MY MY  How low you have dripped down the greased pole Cicero. eh   Old habits are hard to break but in your case you don't get it.  The infrastructure didn't fire with the electorate then and it won't now.  Again take your toys and find new friends who care with what you offer because quite frankly your best is behind you, perhaps?  IMHO eh?

WOW! Where does one begin?

First.... it appears that clubhouse is correct. This proposal was NOT on the agenda posted on the town board's on line site. For the second time, this town board has failed to place pertinent information that effects the lives of it's residents on their website. Now either someone, if not all of them, are blatantly STUPID or they are deliberately hiding this information from the public. Those are obviously the only two conclusions residents can come to.

Second.... I agree with Brad's assumption about the already vacant buildings rotterdam has. If these clowns team up with the plex, rotterdam residents can expect the same laughable development as the city of schenectady. The chosen few will get grants (our tax money) to build or update, while empty buildings will continue to deteriorate and bring down the value of this town. And although I agree that anyone should be allowed to sell or develop their land....was anyone really surprised to see one of the first being Larned??

Third..... I noticed that Ivonella's land is being taken into consideration for a zoning change. Someone at the last town board meeting mentioned that he is delinquent on his taxes on that property. Where is it written that someone delinquent on their taxes can ask for a zoning change?

Forth..... I appears that Clark Kent from the daily rag is clearly privy to information that should be provided to the residents of rotterdam first!

Yes..... we are repeating the constantino days folks. The only difference....people are smarter and better informed.....we have this forum for information..... and this board was not elected by the majority of the residents which means they don't have the majority's support. It was the NNTP that got them in.  Only the 'few' will try to run rotterdam into the ground. And they may succeed. UNLESS the majority of the smart and informed continues to pressure them! IMHO

If this town board was smart .... they would continue the push to put sewers (infrastructure) in this town BEFORE any new construction or development were to be approved. We'll see just how 'smart' they are. ;

Rotterdam's present administration can expect many ARTICLE 78's while they are in office.

ROTFLMAO BT Have you lost your sense of reality?  The NNTP LOST!  Got beat by a group of people with a combined total of one year elected service.  Keep up with your rhetoric though it's really working.  I just don't understand how the total votes in the 4year council races equate to John Mertz and his NNTP getting the DEMS elected?  Same goes for OConnor.  Now FDG is a different analysis IMO Anybody but Steve kicked in there.  Bobby G would have won going away.

How come Mertz and McGarry couldn't win there party primary's?  Lousy candidates, campaigns and bad political judgement.  You just don't get it.  YOU LOST!!!!!!!!!

But in your twisted world you'd have us believe you won something...... I know you win the best supporting actor nomination for your part in TITANIC.  A story of a big ship that hits an iceberg on its way to paridise.  Sound familiar?  Hmmmmmm

Come on peeps.....the board did NOT have the majority of votes from the residents collectively! This board does NOT have the majority of the rotterdam residents behind them!!

Peeps....this isn't 80's or 90's anymore. Most of those sheople are dead and gone or in nursing homes. There is a new smarter, younger and more informed electorate out there.

This town board will be pissing in the wind if it doesn't acknowledge and listen to this part of the electorate. This board will continue to lose support and article 78's WILL be submitted!
