One-party system would be preferable to two-party

    The two-party system in government should be abolished and a one-party system known as the American Party should [be] started.
    A Jan. 28 letter [“Time for voters to abandon parties and declare independence”], by Jim Whiting, said about the same, but he called it the Independent Party.
    It has been proven repeatedly that a person elected as a Republican is unable to think unless he consults the leader of the party. This is also true if elected as a Democrat. And it’s true on both the state and national level.
    If elected as an American Party candidate, he would be forced to think about those who elected him — the American people.

Is this letter for real? Percy what are you complaining about? In Schenectady County we have had one party rule for many years. Nobody seems to give a hoot about it.

We already have that - it's called the No New Tax Party.  Well, it's called whatever John Mertz and McGarry can convince people to latch onto.  Then, right after Election Day 2010, it will be called the "Democratic Party."

Explain? I must have missed something here. How is it called the democratic party?

And it can be a one party system. Everyone just vote for the same party candidates. However, and thank God, our forefathers knew the dangers of a one party government...aka..dictatorship.

I'm saying that we already have a one party system - and thanks, in part, to the NNTP, it's the Democratic Party.  After election day next year, if Mertz, et.al have their way, it will be the Democratic party once again.5

I getcha ya now. Guess we'll have to see what candidates are up for election the next cycle around by the major parties.

dont worry the Dems will be 'getting theirs' next election......

BTW: we have a ONE PARTY system it's called GUMBA GANGSTAS.....and it's all over Washington/the State/the County/the towns etc.......

The Dems are just there by the one step taken so far......it is now time for step #2.........GET OFF MY BACK.......

we wouldn't have this problem if the elected legal beagles weren't so self serving and thinking they are entitled to their own special kind of treatment---
