Thinking the unthinkable: a major oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Well, it’s happened, and now the consequences will have to be paid by all. Why? All the fail-safe procedures were in place, the best and brightest employees were in place, and — to boot — a brand new half-billion-dollar rig! How could this happen? Methinks some nefarious non-person sabotaged the fail-safes and took the ship down with him/her. A religious nut case? A disgruntled environmental whack job? I pray neither. The accident report on this “perfect storm” — if and when it comes out — will be interesting indeed.
Muller...you sir are a moron. The rig was a TEST rig that was set to be shut down the next day. BP dug to 25000 ft as opposed to the approved 18000. Engineers were abroad the rig to see why pressure had been building on the rig. The information just doesn't support sabotage.

The answer of course will cost a lot of money. That is part of changing any technology from one format to another, but it must be done when the advantages are so many. Like when you went from VHS to DVD, you had to spend money to get the DVD player (infrastructure). Except when you add the cost of defending our oil partners and environmental cleanup of disasters like this spill, it costs the US $15 a gallon for oil.
For those reps that hate subsidizing companies, why are we supporting the oil industry this way?
And shouldn't we get our money back for keeping these nations stable enough so they can do business? Can't we do that in the form of heavy taxation of the oil companies?
Want a viable energy solution? Wind and nuclear are both viable.
