bumble, are you suggesting that is a bad thing? Should we not be treating Autism?
Nope, not at all. My friend has an autistic child who's care is covered through their private insurance under mental illness and disabilities. So although I'm not an expert in the insurance field, I'm a bit confused.

If a person wants to fund the research and treatment thereof.....have a fund raiser like everyone else....it's not easy, never has been and never will be.... government mandated or not.....
with national health 'care' on the horizon---one must be wary of what is equated with autism treatment.......the lingo is grey at best.....
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

senders, treatment of autism is gray at best? Really? I hear treatment of cancer is gray too. Guess we shouldn't treat that either, what about heart disease? Come on people you should be ashamed of yourselves.
I'm not saying it's wrong....what I am saying is let capitalism work it's wonders for competion for treatment/research etc....the government will ALWAYS rate you......I never said dont treat it....I just hope this isn't an 'IN' for national heathcare....because YOU WILL be rated..... everything via government is already and they aren't even 'personal influences' such as health.....do you recall lobbyists...... yeah,,,,THEY WILL RATE YOUR DISEASE......mark my words...it already happens on a small scale...the goverment will be on a big scale......
I agree with health INSURANCE reform....but GOD DAMN IT....PUT IT ACROSS THE BOARD.....folks are NOT more equal than others.....
Trade will ALWAYS happen...legal or illegal....hope or no hope......medicine IS NOT an exact science and IS NOT measurable either by the government or private insurance.....the measurement is in what we choose to do individually or community wise based on individual situations close to us.....JMHO...
you can put your life in the hands of anyone you wish...but dont make me.....that IS America...and that IS choice.......

You're right, Senders, folks are NOT more equal than others. That is the point: those inflicted with physical ailments should not be more equal than those inflicted with psychological/mental ailments.
The state should not mandate insurance companies to cover ANYTHING! My policy should be written for MY needs. My premium should not include the treatment for something I will NEVER use. I don't think a single male's premium should have to pay for a woman's OBGYN visit. Just as I don't believe a woman's premium should have to pay for a single man's erectile dysfunction medication. This is CRAZY!
Car insurance is determined by my driving record, how far I drive to work, the year make model of my car, and where I live. That is how my premium is figured. My home owners insurance is based on the value of my home, and the cost of rebuilding it if something were to happen. My health insurance on the other hand, is determined by law makers who want to mandate that MY premium cover the cost of ailments and treatment that I will NEVER have. And I have NO CHOICE.
Personal health insurance should be ala carte, to fit the customer. This is self serving legislation that NONE OF HIS CONSTITUENTS ASKED ANGELO TO PROPOSE.

Wrong...Cancer is an objective diagnosis. There are medical tests like blood work, biopsies, and MRI's that can definitively determine if a person has cancer or not. Autism is a behavioral spectrum that is determined subjectively by a psychologist. There isn't a dipstick that is pulled out of a persons head to determine the diagnosis. A person can take a child to 5 different psychologist and receive 5 different diagnosis. The same subjectivity is used to diagnose ADD, ADHD and the other "behavioral disorders".
Psychologist weren't smart enough to become medical doctors, so they had to find a way to cash in. Lobbying legislators to force insurance companies to cover every new behavior disorder that they come up with is where they are starting.

Just had to point out your grammar error in a sentence where you were making a comment about someone's lack of intelligence. I am his constituent, and I support this legislation.

This is a community forum, it is recreation, not my profession. BTW, I didn't comment on any one person's lack of intelligence, it was directed toward the psychologist's, in comparison to medical doctors. Thanks for correcting my grammar, let's work on your reading comprehension.
Why do you support it, and why I should have to pay for it?

Why do you support it?
Well, I personally have never met a psychologist who was not a person, thereby making them a "someone." So regarding my reading comprehension, I'd say it's spot-on. If one comments that bakers are not as smart as butchers, one is then calling Jim the Baker not as smart as John the Butcher. By the way, I don't make a point of insulting other people's intelligence on the blog. But if I did, and did so in a sentence with incorrect grammar, then I'd certainly be exposing myself to a little ribbing.
Right, Cicero? You are a very whiny person...have you ever noticed that? It's not very becoming.
Regarding the legislation, I have volunteered for many organizations that deal with people of all ages being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Many of these people do not have the ability to pay for care. I have seen the hoops people have to jump through for said care, while our finest on Broadway walk in and out of the DSS building with a welfare check without so much as a blink of an eye.
