Supply of jobs for teens dwindles
City looking at cutting program

BY AMEERAH CETAWAYO Gazette Reporter

The city’s participation in the county’s Summer Youth Employment Program faces the budget ax at a time when New York’s unemployment rate for teens ranks 13th in the nation.
The program places low-income teenagers in jobs at local nonprofit groups and businesses.
Mayor Brian Stratton told the City Council Monday that $75,000 could be saved by not participating in the jobs program, an option that was included among closing the city pools and other cost-saving efforts.
For Bernie McEvoy, president of the board for Vale Cemetery, the cut would pre-empt his efforts to participate in the program this year after a nearly four-year hiatus. ............>>>>...............>>>>..............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00905&AppName=1

The city had better cut more than that if they're going to balance their budget.

Hey...how 'bout letting private landscapers do the job and.take the people who are collecting welfare and/or the people on unemployment and they can give them these summer jobs! Give it back to the private sector and take it out of the taxpayers hands!

Is this part of Kosiur's created $80K patronage job?

What a loss! NOT! Maybe the County will also get down to brass tacks and can Lumpy Kosiur aka {Father Flannagan}? He is eyeing a possible City School Bored run!

Just what the worst School Bored needs? If Lumpy Kosiur is the answer-what's the problem? Another DEM patronage king-who can't cut the mustard in the private sector. He would fit right in.

Well he can surely never run for a public office again and expect to win...right? WOW...can you just imagine all of the
patronage jobs that would be lost if the reps took control of the city and the county? That in itself would lower the budget/taxes!

Well, until the reps got comfortable and put their own people in those created patronage jobs!! Unfortunately they are all alike!
