Obviously, you are making it something it isn't. This isn't about throwing people out of town who have a family member who has a disability. It's about allowing a zoning change which would allow a housing project that has shown to be a drain on our services. The housing is problematic to say the least. All one has to do is look at the calls for service for both fire and police not to mention the school district.
When the Superintendant says influx of "special needs children", I assumed that she meant a physically or mentally handicapped child. After thinking about it, I'm pretty sure that is not what she meant. I think she was alluding to the behavioral problems these children create in the classrooms because of the environmental conditions in which residents that live in that type of housing tend to have. So I'm not so sure how this superintendent could provide proof that this type of housing attracts the "special needs" children which I associate with handicapped - it's not possible.
Instead of using "special needs children" she shoudl have said "children of poor single mothers".
I think she was referring to that particular housing complex - but I could be wrong. By not following protocol to appropriately occupy the apartments, the town and the school had no warning about those new students coming in. The school still had a responsibility to educate them - where do you think that money came from? They can't just ask for more money mid-year.
If Zhang and Sync Realty had just FOLLOWED THE LAW, then the town and school could have put more time and consideration into a plan of action. People don't always realize the cost of students on a district. As the relative of three children with special needs, I know how important it is for parents to be staunch advocates for their children. Such advocacy would include not putting your children at risk by housing them in an illegal apartment that you could be forced to leave at any time.

She didn't say that though. She wasn't talking about protocol or just ANY new students coming in. She specifically refered to the "influx of special needs children" that come from that particular housing complex. By specifically stating "special needs", it sounds as if she would not have a problem with the opposite of "special needs" or "advanced" children joining the school mid year.
That's like the government subsidizing college education.....the fees/costs go up NO MATTER WHAT......the unions will eat it up---I GUARANTEE!!!!!......
As for the letter----IT WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED, if this town had it's head out of their neighbors asses bases on development......poor poor poor cheap self enriching planning.....
It wasn't this board, last board, the board before that,,,,it's a whole incestuous generation.......and it doesn't matter which political party.....
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

The commission also received a pointed letter from Evan Christou of Tops American Grill at Five Corners. He said the housing area appears to be in a “disappointing state of disrepair” and questioned the safety of the buildings. “The condition of these buildings negatively impacts the value of our properties and does not portray a community which boasts in its motto ‘a nice place to live,’ ” he wrote in the correspondence. This is a joke right. Look around this town the old Curry rd shopping center, cvs on Guilderland ave, Capital Plaza, Grand Union on Carman rd, and the list goes on forever and as far as I can see the apartments don't look any worse than the rest of the town. I guess if you have a special needs child you have to treat them the same way that unwanted puppies get treated so they don't put a drain on the school system but don't cut any of the wasteful spending or lower the teachers benefits or salary to save money.
look across the street at "COASTAL"
Talking to each other is better than talking about each other
You may want to review a previous thread where there are many individuals on this board who were posting on how terrible this housing project was and something needed to be done.
and where was code enforcement!

ROTTERDAM Zoning request by Sync Realty at Town Board BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Controversy surrounding Sync Realty’s proposed zone change for the Rotterdam Housing Area is expected to spill over into a public hearing during tonight’s Town Board meeting. A pair of attorneys are threatening to file a lawsuit against the town if board members don’t agree to change the property’s zoning to multi-family residential. Meanwhile, nearly 200 residents have signed an online petition urging the town to reject the proposed change. Board members are expected to hear public comments during their meeting at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. However, a vote on the zone change is not expected until April. Sync purchased the former military housing complex next to the Galesi-owned Rotterdam Corporate Park for $1.92 million in March 2008, in a surplus auction conducted by the U.S. General Services Administration. The company began renting units in July 2008, despite lacking a certificate of occupancy or a zone change from the town; neither was needed when the property was owned by the government. Sync sought to grandfather the property’s use as multi-family residential site with the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals and then the state Supreme Court, but lost in both instances. The company continues to lease apartments in the complex. Andrew Brick, an attorney representing Sync, submitted a 10-page document to board members last week indicating the company may take further action against the town if Sync is not granted a “fair hearing” in the matter. In the letter, Brick outlines a number of complaints in how the town handled Sync’s purchase of the property and its attempt to have the property legally zoned. Brick said the previous Town Board refused to grant Sync a zoning change in 2008 unless the company agreed to cede a “valuable portion” of the property and build a 60-foot access road that “serves no benefit other than to the industrial park next door.” He also accuses the former town administration of ignoring a zone change application and a request for an out-of-district sewer agreement last fall, among a host of other allegations. ....................>>>>..................>>>>.................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01401&AppName=1
After last nights town board meeting, my opinion of this zoning change for the old army depot has totally changed. Now think about this for a minute.....what are the chances that almost EVERY SINGLE person who got up to speak either had disabilities or had children with disabilities? What are the chances of ONE rental complex having almost exclusively a disabled person in each apartment? Doesn't anyone find that strange????????
Now I have absolutely nothing against disabled people! PLEASE...that would be absurd! HOWEVER, in my opinion, I think this was clearly an intentional set up for the 'D' word....discrimination!! I believe that the rotterdam people and it's government officials have been dooped big time!
These developers and those who represent them, are trying to portray the rotterdam residents, it's school district, it's government officials and it's attorney as the 'bad guy'.
Well, I'm not buying it and neither should anyone else. As far as these present renters go and their situation, I would suggest they sue their landlords for misrepresentation. And 'yes'....it looks like they will have to find another place to live. Hey....we have new MFH all over rotterdam....have at it! And hey...if they like this type of living quarters, they can always move to Stiemetz or Yates.
Just don't fault the rotterdam residents or school district.....Place fault where it belongs....on their landlords who orchestrated this whole fiasco!!! IMHO

It is a done deal. Sync gets a rezone to residential.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
not every apartment has a disabled child in it that's not what they said, it was probably just those parents who more vocal at the meeting because of there out rage toward what was said in the letter they received

Then what was the owner's point of parading these people, regarding disabilities, to present their cases? These people were OBVIOIUSLY 'hand picked' by the owner and the ones that represent the owners. I'm telling you....this is a scam and a sham that dooped the town of rotterdam.
Sorry....but the way I see it, the owners and the ones that represent them, are using these 'renters' as a 'bleeding heart shield'....plain and simple.
But then again, this is just another prime example of how 'rotterdam does business'! And we wonder why it is a sh!thole! Rotterdam has had reps and dems in office and the place is still a cesspool ready to overflow!
I would like to know who and how these owners got a CO in the first place!!

It will make a nice lawsuit if the town denies the people with disabilities a place to live. The people with disabilities organization have a lot of pull in high government places.
