Yup...we are all aware of these overpaid cops. Until the people start to elect 'new' candidates that will stand up to these unions....that are not beholden to NO ONE but the taxpayers........it will continue to be business as usual folks.

come on....don't be afraid...change is good!!!

Entry level salary for a patrolman- which can be found through  http://www.officer.com/   The results, considering the importance of the police districts are a bit of a shock. Ten major cities across the US. LAPD pay nearly twenty grand more than NYPD, entry level. Descending from highest salary:

Certainly not the Police chief salaries but the patrolman -

1. LAPD - $51,114

2. Seattle - $47,341

3. Las Vegas - $46,259

4. Wash.,DC - $44,612

5. Chicago - $42,263

6. Dallas - $41,690

7. Phil., PA - $38,416

8. Miami - $37,817

9. NYPD - $32,700

10. Birm. AL - $28,142

You say overpaid....I ask how overrpaid are they if they respond to your home and save your life or that of one of your family, putting their lives in the way of harm to protect you.  Are some overpaid becuase they don't do the job...you bet...just like those in every walk of life that are overpaid for doingg nothing.  Unions have a value and then some don't...can't lump them together.  Union where I am is great....for the lazy non performer...just ask those in the Union that try to work hard and get ahead, and they will tell you that.  Can't blame the unions for everything, but they are not faultless, either.

Thinnk about the "overpaid" cop, then stop and think what it would be worth insalary for YOU to put on that uniform and do the job.

You are missing the point. .... I think.

Do you think that it is fair for a cop to retire on double their salary? And yes they put their life on the line....but tell me how many cops are killed in the line of duty annually? And is anyone twisting their arm to join forces?

Do I think a cop, any cop, should be paid their fair share? You bet I do. Do I respect law enforcement? You bet I do! But it has gotten way out of control and I'm afraid it is almost too late to reverse the lucrative salaries and benefits they get paid. And as far as the cops that abuse their position, where is the outrage from the non-abuser?

Like Curtis (spd)....His fellow workers who are trained to notice these 'odd' behaviors of drug use didn't know he was on crack/cocaine? Please!

And we, the taxpayers, can thank our government officials, who just about give the farm away when they negotiate these union contracts.

Quid pro quo?

Quid pro quo??? Sounds like some legal term.  Think I heard it used in the Joe Bruno trial.  I think that would be an allegation that
a crime was committed by whoever negotiated the Police Chief contract.

Question 1-   Who negotiated the Police Chief's contract?

Question 2-   Assuming what the chief got was a big fat pay check- what was the benefit received by the person(s) that negotiated the contract on behalf of the town?

Question 3-  What year was the contract signed and when does it end?

what is done is done, the the view out my a$$ is always 20/20

but i understand the point

the chief could stand up and refuse a raise and maybe lead by example in these difficult times

the same goes for all non-union employees

and remember
all lives are created equal
dont cry how dangerous a job is

In this country we have an unrealistic expectation of life

Tippy, which country has a realistic expectation of life? And, what's so great about a realistic expectation? I think the best thing about this country is anyone can become anything they want to be...A black guy, brought up by a single white mother, sired by a Kenyan, can become President of the United States. Unrealistic? You betcha! True? Yeap! Happening anywhere else in the world? Not a chance.

i was going to babble on about how police officers have told me how dangerous and important their jobs are as compared to the Electric Grid Lineman

but

walk the streets of
sau palo brazil
dubai

see what a dollar does and does not buy

around the world family takes care of family
here others expect me to take care of their family

stroke, heart attack, cancer - prevention is one thing, the expectation for you to cure me after i have smoked like a chimney and laid in the sun and tanning bed for 30 years is another - this goes deeper than health insurance

and the ability to succeed is not limited to the USA

I respect all the freedoms I have
and I highly respect and will always remember those who have paid or will pay a price for them

remember we(USA) are not the only passangers on this ship

oh yeah, when the traffic light is red  -  "F'in stop"  you are messing with my expectations of life
