I hear the old Eckerd building on Guilderland Ave was sold at auction .. the new owners are planning a pizza shop and laundromat in it.
The laundromat is honestly a good idea, look at all the water they'll get during a heavy rain / flood - and no meters!! But, do we really need another pizza joint? Parisi has to be a bit nervous over this one.
It's sure better than an empty building. I went by there one evening and there was a guy pi$$ing in the parking lot! Now that's a sightfor ya!

You are correct, MT. The "new pizza shop" is on next week's Planning Commission agenda:
Town of Rotterdam Planning Commission Agenda for January 19, 2010 1. Flash Point Roadservice Inc. – Rotterdam Corporate Park. Final Site Plan/Special Use Permit Public Hearing to operate a mobile tractor trailer truck repair business from Building 7, Bay 1. 2. Paesan’s Pizza/Laundromat/Future Tenant Space – 2513 Guilderland Avenue. Sketch Site Plan/Special Use Permit to create three (3) tenant spaces in the former Eckert Drugstore for the operation of Paesan’s Pizza (4,000 sf), a Laundromat (2,400 sf) and future tenant space (4,000 sf). Architect: Capital Architecture.
Not bad for someone who technically doesn't even live in the area (but has significant interest in the future of Rotterdam) and is currently >1000 miles away, eh?
Their pizza is pretty good. But I don't think it will end up being a 'rotterdam' pizza joint so to say. The residents on the broadway end of that area will be the beneficiaries. The laundry mat will probably do well also at that end of town/city. Sorento's didn't do so good there either. That building is still empty and the building next to it is for sale and of course the old library still sits!
So a new pizza joint and laundry mat will be a welcome site. IMHO

The old Draper School is just sitting there collecting dust.
And it has been serving as a parking lot and/or junkyard for the neighbors cars, snowmobile trailers, etc. Doesn't Rotterdam have Code Enforcement Officers and if so, why aren't they doing their job?
