My concern is who is stepping up to replace Tom. Tom had unanimous support this summer to be kept on as chair. Now post-election disaster people want him out. Who is it that people want in?
John Mertz is a smart, likeable fellow, but way too stubborn and pigheaded to lead the party at either the town or county level. John gets an idea in his head and doesn't listen to others. I have had personal interaction enough with him to know. Tenacity is a good trait, but you need to listen. I want the party unified.
The REMS issue was a dividing factor in the party. The residents I talked to wanted to keep REMS even if it meant a taxing district. I favored keeping REMS myself. In the beginning the town leadership was not in favor of a taxing district, but then they started to listen to the residents. So they flip-flopped??? NO, they listened to those that put them in power.
I don't think REMS lost the election for the Reps. What lost the election for the Reps is the Surprise factor, (leadership wasn't listening to the residents to rein that one in) and the negative campaigning which can be accredited to Gerard.
On the County Leg. runs, Viscusi went negative and still got a lot of votes. Comparing Holly, whom I like, to a rotten apple? That was pretty vile. Viscusi wasn't that far behind her in votes.
John Mertz was the one voice against REMS! Being stubborn against new taxation is hardly a vice. Things done changed since summer-Wipe out in town, ANG left for the DEMS, Wipe out in Niskayuna, Sue Savage is now chewing on a State Senate bid, no candidate for DA or 2 County Leg seats.
An option has been forwarded to expand the party with dynamic NNTP leaders. Mike has respectfully declined to REP party build. He frying other fish. We should respect his wishes. Change is coming-we can not tolerate the continued implosion of democracy.
To be clear, I want John to come back to the Reps. I value him as a fellow Republican. But he needs to listen to others before I can support him as a leader. He has to accept his idea is not always the best.
I wish Mike would change his mind, but I respect his decision.
Husky ~ I love you and I hate you ~ nah, just kidding. You are very very very wise, but yet your support of Parisi for the TB was very foolish.
I understand that you were at the committee meeting and supported Jerry ~ but he had the votes whether you like it or not. Parisi sank all the party's money into Tommasone and Viscusi ~ the Joe's got a little, about as much as Firorillo ~ Stan and Mary were completely disrespected and not supported (even though they were the only ones actaully campaigning). As for the MDV seat ~ Joe/Joe/John/Mike/Stan/Mary or Mike should have been given the seat. I understand that Mary felt rejected by the voters ~ but she DID get votes and she should have been given the seat. Reps need a smart, fair and approachable woman out front ~ but, she would be well served to hold back on the conservation issues for more appropriate venues.
As for Mertz becoming a chair ~ your points are very valid.
I didn't think any of them wanted to be appointed to the MDV seat which is why Gerard took it. I could be very wrong on that since I didn't ask any of them. I had hoped that someone that hadn't run and lost would be appointed. I mentioned Jeff Nuzzaco. We may have lost Stan to the Independents. He was pretty disgusted at one point over the primary loss.
Gerard needs to temper himself. That's what got us in trouble with the voters. We have a shot this fall of putting someone in the slot that we all support. First we need to agree on a chair.
Mary's core is environmental conservation. However, she understands and advocates for small and efficient government. Frugality and caution with other people's money and her own is also part of her core. Maybe someday she'll try it again.

'Environmental conservation' and 'small and efficient government' do not belong in the same sentence. The Environmental conservationist has cost the taxpayers a bundle. And they continue to lobby for even more money.
They may be advocates for small government....but not when it comes to environmental issues.

Forget about getting someone that everyone supports--that will never happen. The NNTP leaders are still waiting for the olive branch. REP "leaders" never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. Sunday is the last chance.
As far as the Town Board-at least 2 other people wanted that seat. They did not get any support. Mary Barrie is a wonderful person, who is active at church but was put in the wrong race. Instead of encouraged she was left out to dry. Same old story-different day.
Quoted from Felipe: ... Right now the only problem I have with Mertz is that he doesn't like dogs ...
I just had a recollection of a time when McGarry and I were out campaigning door to door and we confronted a rather large dog that apparently didn't like conservative politicians. Brian expressed a hesitance to approach the house. I am now further dismayed to think that McGarry may also not like dogs. I recall that Michael has a dog. I don't recall that any of my running mates have cats.
IF, there was any involvement by the Assembly is was insignificant at best. Further, the money came primarily from the efforts of Brian and me holding fundraisers. The campaign contributions were from friends, family, and individuals, some of who post to and/or read this board.
Brad, anyone wishing to can view your receipts and expenditures for your campaign. McGarry's also. What about O'Connor? What about Mertz? Can you provide the name of their committee so we can review their receipts and expenditures?
No offense but thats why I didn't vote for you. I watch the Co Leg mtgs. and I choose the watch those I voted for. I would always get a chuckle from my hubby when Mr Suhrada would speak...I hit the mute button. Really got worn out but thank goodness I will only be using it now when Farley Jr speaks.

Another one sided democrak. Try considering another POV for a change without blindly hitting mute on your brain.
